The building and gardens, fabulous; food, not so much

Was here with a group for an evening meal. The building and gardens are lovely. The service is excellent. The food is just nothing special—good, but not anything special and certainly not memorable.

The San Angel Inn has got to be one of Mexico City’s loveliest restaurants, and it seems to be the haunt of choice for Mexico City’s beautiful people. Mexico City is a place where people tend to dress down and hide their wealth, but here they flaunt it. The San Angel Inn was the only place in Mexico City where,... More

Old traditional place. Building itself deserves to be visited, old historical hacienda. Food is classified as Mexican but it has an international flair for all palates. Food, drinks, well presented. Great service. Reservations is a must.

I've been to this establishment many many times and can't imagine going to DF without a meal at the San Angel Inn. As everyone says, it's in an old monastery with a beautiful courtyard, next to Diego Rivera's old studio. If you can manage it, a long Saturday lunch (starting around 1:30-2) is best for the people-watching. It's not just... More

I was visiting Mexico City on business and a friend took me out on the weekend. We ended up here at the San Angel Inn for lunch. I had the stuffed crabs, it was amazing. By far the best meal I had when visiting the area for 9 days. The restaurant is stunning, no matter where you sit!

This is quite simply one of the prettiest restaurants that I have ever visited. The outside courtyard is lovely, but the inside dining room is equally lovely. We went there for Sunday comida and ate outside. The weather was perfect, the music playing in the background was nice....we had a wonderful time. The food was almost an afterthought! The food... It is a beautiful and rather expensive restaurant in the upscale area of San Angel. The restaurant has a nice garden, a covered outdoor patio, and an indoor part which also includes the bar area. It seems to be patronized by rather rich clients. There are many waiters who seem to be permanently busy although often they could be seen... More

As a child in the 60's this was one of my father's favorite restaurants. We could never go to Mexico City without eating there at least once. Housed in an old hacienda, It exudes a charming, elegant and peaceful ambiance that takes you back in time. Excellent traditional Mexican cuisine. I would recommend sharing plates so you can experience a variety... More

We were taken here by our business hosts; after the meal we thought we would have come ourselves too. Excellent, attentive service and with English menu. Terrific margaritas and martinis. Everyone at our table of 8 boasted of their food: mexican steak, fish Veracruzana, swordfish were favorites. Plenty of bread, tostadas and tortillas to graze on. Fantastic desserts of fruit... More

It was our first visit to Mexico city and our host said he was taking us to a Mexican restaurant where he had booked a table a month in advance. We expected something along the lines of the several Mexican eating houses that we have frequented in the past in NY. But we were in for a surprise. We walked... More
