A new friend, who lives in DF suggested we meet for lunch at " El Cardenal " . He also raves about breakfast here . The restaurant is quite nice & fills up quickly for a traditional Mexican " comida " mid day . 2 pm - 3 pm . The bread is delicious which tells you a lot about... More

El Cardenal hasn't changed over the years - and that's a GOOD thing! The service is subtly attentive. The menu features many delicious regional Mexican dishes and also the classic meat and pasta items. As a starter, we enjoyed a small round of fresh cheese smothered in sautéed squash blossoms. I had a lovely, tender cordero (lamb) served over wonderfully... More

El Cardenal was highly recommended to me by everyone who knew anything about Mexico City including friends, travel consultants, guides, taxi drivers and hotel staff. We were not disappointed. This was our formal night of the trip and we dined at El Cardenal (Palmas location) prior to attending the Ballet Folkloria de Mexico. It was an excellent choice for the... More

I’ve been there a couple of times, always at Palma Street, just a block from El Zocalo. Service is very good and you can choose among a huge variety of Mexican dishes for a complete breaktast, than can be served until around noon. Great hot chocolate, juices and pastries, too. Last time as while I was there there as a... More

If you're looking for a complete Downtown Mexico City experience, then get up early and head for El Cardenal for a typical Mexican Breakfast. Have a "lechero" (strong Coffee and warm foaming milk), Mexican's Latte Version. Their Sweet Bread selection is house made and not to be missed. From there every selection in the menu is from a different region... More

Excellent food and good service in an awesome location. The "Plaza Tolsá" so named after the famous Spanish Architect and Sculptor Manuel Tolsá, 1757-1816, is one of the "jewells" of the downtown area. Two of his major works frame the restaurant: the equestrian statue of Carlos IV of Spain "El Caballito" and the magnificent building el "Palacio de Minería". A... More

It is a very clean restaurant, When we arrived early on Sunday morning it was already crowded. People in queue, waiting for a seat. Thanks God we made our reservation in advance. The food was excellent, even it is mostly mexican food: I asked for NOT chlle at all, and they did it!. The only thing I complained of was... More
