Local cuisine in an elegant, informal setting

Located in the shops at the Palacio Los Condes de Miravalle, the chic address for shopping in Mexico's Centro district, Padrinos offers a taste of authentic, "barrio" cuisine. Good Mexican food, a very decent wine list, and some strange surprises on the menu such as ant eggs. The restaurant has... read more

I went to Padrinos with my Dad for dinner during the Xmas holidays. The location of the restaurant is what sets it apart. It is in the Azul Historico building in the heart of downtown Mexico City. Most of the tables are in the patio which has a lovely hanging garden. The only downside is that they have 4 large... More

Nice place, nice clients (many tourists), but the food is not spectacular. Definitely it is not for foodies, specially if you know Mexican food. Portions are for starving models and the prices are proportionally high. I would go to El Cardenal instead. Si eres un comensal consumado, mejor ve a otro restaurante. Si te gusta estar en un lugar con... More

Nice restaurant in a restored building with shops opposite the Casino Español in the centro historico of Mexico City. Beautiful outside patio with garden wall, friendly service and an interesting menu of local cuisine including ants eggs (escamoles) for appetizers, which actually tasted quite nice. Understand [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escamol] that the eggs are harvested from the agave plants used for tequila and... More

This restaurant is really a pain to get to. If you there on a weekday, you have to fight un-Godly traffic. You go on the weekend, you have to make your way through a mass of humanity. But, having said that, it is in a really nice remodeled old plaza, built in the vice royalty time of Mexico. The food... More

We shared "cold" plates of ceviche, tiradito and aguachile for starters. Super fresh and tasty. For mains we again shared tacos: tempura shrimp (gigantic!), duck and rib eye. All were wonderful. An old lady came by and offered hand made salsas on molcajete and we ordered the peanut one. Really tasty and not too spicy. Overall a wonderful meal. Highly... More

One of the best meals we had in Mexico City, this restaurant is a favorite of the woman that owns the apartment we rented. We loved the "living wall" and the ambience of the patio on a beautiful February night. The mixed drinks were expertly prepared and the French white wine was perfectly matched with our entrees and very reasonably... More

Padrinos is part of a larger chain which specializes in modern Mexican food with a focus on seafood. Their food is great and really worth trying, more so if you are nor local. The service was so so, considering it was peak hour on a Sunday. The waiters were really nice but I guess the kitchen got maxed out! Although... More
