We didn't go there for the food and emerged happy.

This is a tourist place, which gets panned for lousy food. SO DON'T GO THERE TO EAT!. As it was, I had stuffed myself on a typically gigantic Mexican comida, so I didn't go to La Opera looking for anything more than a bowl of soup and a couple of drinks. The atmosphere is fantastic and worth... read more

We stopped for drinks at the bar late one afternoon. Drinks were not inexpensive and not well made. BUT -- the place itself is a knockout and worth a visit just to see this beautiful antique interior full of old-world charm. Worth a look-see if you're in the neighborhood.

Located in a corner of some of the main streets in downtown Mexico City, Cantina la Opera has a late 19th Century ambience. The decoration outside and inside is lavish. It is said that General Francisco (Pancho) Vill, the famous revolutionary caudillo, visited the place ans shot several bullets into the ceiling, the holes still kept. The menu is not... More

We went in to the Opera Bar just off the Zocalo, really just to kill some time before going to the airport. We had 'bledy merries' and beers and a very enjoyable time. Mexicans seem to be so happy at work, and they work hard in their own way. This is a very pretty bar and restaurant and well worth... More

Our son took us to this historical restaurant were Pancho Villa celebrate his winning revolution and shot his guns to the ceiling. The trace is still there. The restaurant is so beautiful that you expect very good Mexican food! Well forget it no flavour ... They do have great chefs so why not hire them... The service was nice and... More

It is a very glamourous dining and bar area. There are lovely decorative features, which enhance the dining. The latter was also very good. From the varied menu we chose pulpo al gusto (octopus) and the salmon. Accompanied by dark and light beer, they were delectable. We finished with desserts and coffee. The staff were great, attentive and friendly. We... More

Wonderful food. Attentive staff, had the opera salad, the sautéed mushrooms with garlic and soap de tortilla. Choice of wines very good. Great location.

We called in on spec during a one day visit to the City and were instantly given a table and served by what appeared to be the owner. The interior is all dark wood and brass fittings with white and red tablecloths - but this is no old-fashioned place. The food was quite traditional but no worse for being so.... More

Food and service is excellent, as is the intimate ambience, created by the heavy wood details and curved booths. A way to experience an "older" Mexico.

We went to this place looking for the historical and gastronomical experience you intend to find in downtown. We didn't find any of them. As foreigners we asked the metre to explain us the menu, that has few options, we had our choice and when the plates arrived they were presented like if we were in the 80's or something... More
