Traditional Mexican Cuisine since 1954. Everything is made artisanally. We cook all our dishes in clay pots. We prepare our moles from scratch. Cook our own tortilla dough using the ancient nixtamalization process and then grinding the corn in our own volcanic rock mill. We grind & stuff our own sausage, hanging it & letting it cure for a whole week before it can be used. All our desserts are made also in either copper or clay pots. Be sure to ask for a tour of the kitchen so you can witness this first hand and also take a lesson on how to make tortillas and our world famous margaritas.

good, but not for vegans

I was hoping this place was as vegan-friendly as previous reviews suggested, but their vegetarian menu had no vegan options. That said, they were able to make me a hibiscus enchiladas without the usual dairy. It wasn't great, but it was interesting. My partner did enjoy a traditional meat dish... read more

The minute you walk into the place your great with a smile and the excellent service starts there. We were served by Isamel who made some tasty recommendations starting with appetizers, soups and entrees. Very authentic Mexican food. Highly recommended!! Thank you.

I had cerdo y mole verde con pepitas. So Delicious! I have been here before and will definitely go again. It is a quiet place that serves authentic meals with respect.

Cozy restaurant with great service and several vegetarian options in the menu. Food was nice and reasonably priced. Also, maybe the best service on the restaurant I got on my trip: fast, smiling and also in English if needed.

This little institution has been around for years. As the "Zoo"na Rosa goes off the raunchy nightclub cliff, Fonda La Refugio stands in the neighborhood like an insect encased in amber, trapped in its past, even though it does serve insects as a specialty of the house as a way to be part of the current trend. But it is... More

This place has been an institution for the last 40 years in the Zona Rosa. Loved the tortillas, and the beef stuffed chiles. The restaurant is in a 2 story house, has a lot of character.

THIS RESATAURANT IS NOT ON 166 LONDRES BUT 166 LIVERPOOL......This is an old classic restaurant in the Zona Rosa section of town. The food was good having the guacamole to start and the Conchinita Pibil, that was actually excellent...Hand made tortillas and a very nice green tomatio salsa that was well prepared. The fried cheese plate was decent, very fresh... More

We had a great dinner tonight. Good food, good service, and some new foods. If you drink wine, please make sure and try the Mexican wine - it is really good!

Liked everything so much, we went there two nights in a row. A small restaurant located not far off the Reforma. Hours are 1PM to 11PM every day. Not a chain restaurant. Excellent Margaritas.
