I was in Mexico City for work and was treated to Villa Maria. I wanted authentic and pretty well got it. The mole was unreal ...even tried the fried grub worms and ant eggs, they are not as scary as they sound. The Mexican coffee after dinner is a must do if you like cinnamon - a bit sweet but... More

We went on a Tuesday night w/ a large party & placed a rez as we were cabbing it there. Lucky to get in. The place was packed & is a real tourist & family destination. Mariachi's were entertaining & atmosphere was lively & festive. This is everything I thought a cantina should be! They have a menu in English... More

We enjoyed the large margaritas. I had two traditional lemon/lime ones on the rocks that were so refreshing after a day of touring that I had two. They did not taste strong, but they made me quite jolly. The food and service were good. The mariachi band stayed on the staircase away from where we were seated, so they provided... More

We had a business dinner there with our colleagues from Mexico City and it was their choice of an authentic Mexican restaurant and a good one. Food was excellent - I loved their guacamole! Margaritas were very good and huge. Mariachi band added some zest to our wonderful evening. I loved the decor of this place but the signs did... More

If you like tacky signs, pushy waiters trying to hurry you through your meals and huge margaritas containing less than a thimble of tequila, you will love this place. The food was OK - the music load and obnoxious, the drinks awful. Think Chi-chi's, if from the U.S.

It´s a beautiful and comfortable place to invite anyone if you want them to get their first excellent impression of Mexico. Me and my family had the luck to eat escamole which is season dish made of ant eggs.

Their Chiles en Nogada are good, very good. Not so big, so you can finish it, very tasty, excellent sauce. Before you can eat a Dry Fideo Soup and after a small dessert and coffee. Yummy yummy and you can add an excellent service.

For some reason this restaurant wants to occasionally charge an arbitrary "cubierto" (cover or "table" charge) to patrons already paying for food and drink. I've eaten at dozens of other restaurants in the city and have never been insulted by being asked to pay 20 pesos per person after I'm already paying hundreds of pesos for food and drink. Even... Villa Maria is one of this place you shouldn't miss, a staple within the traditional restaurants of Mexico City. This place serves original, tasty and well-presented dishes. Mexican cuisine the way you imagine it, exactly how you want it. The restaurant itself is quite big and colourful. The walls are adorned with mexican quotes about love, life and partying and... More

I did enjoy Villa Maria's excellent food another 4 times in my last business stay at Santa Fe, Mexico. As always the food quality is superb and enjoyable. The only odds: the slow service and the noisy ambient. You will not make a mistake selecting this place, specially if it is an informal event. The "infladas de requeson" and "chile... More
