A bit too famous

Cafe de Tacuba is a nice place with a large room for guests and a beautiful atmosphere, though a bit over the top for the sake of looking traditionally Mexican. Service was ok but waiters were too busy with many customers coming and going so we had to struggle a bit to get their attention. Food was... read more

This is a restaurant that is very highly regarded by mexicans, and you can see a lot of Mexico City's elite eating there. I was therefore just a little disappointed. I was expecting something really special, and what I got was no better than pretty good. The food was fine but uninspired, and choice limited, and the waitstaff a little... More

If you are looking for a restaurant that is authentic and not subject to the usual tourist hype then this is it. Cafe de Tacuba is conveniently situated one block from the Opera house on a side street so not too far from the busy bustle of the main drag. The exterior is unassuming but it is upon entering that... More

The tamale was huge. The brains were fried not sautéed like I asked. They tried to stiff me out of 200 pesos in change. They have what I think is a "big shot" room and one for peons. Although, the peon in this case was worth more than the rest of place combined. The country still confuses a Men's Warehouse... More

We were looking a nice place to eat while our visit to the Centro Historico. After asking a few locals where to eat, all of them recommended this place because of the design, historic building and food. What I can say they were right, food was delicious the Menu consist in Mexican dishes. But what really impressed me the most... More

This is a totally charming, traditional restaurant in the Centro Historico that has been in operation since 1912. The food isn't what you go there for (though it's fine). You go there for the decor, the waitresses wearing big white bows in their hair, and, in our case, the tableside serenade.

Most patrons were locals, a good sign. Food was decent typical Mexican. Fish was very good. Pollo mole poblano was overcooked and not worth getting. Service was good. Prices were reasonable.

We had dinner here which was nice apart from the beef which was very tough and bland. The fish dish was the meal to get and it was delicious. There were some mariachi singers which were very good and entertaining.

Sometimes and excellent is not just excellent food but the entire package. In this case Café Tacuba is a very traditional restaurant right on the heart of Mexico City. Is an experience of itself and their menu is old fashion Mexican food. The Food is good and reasonably priced. But my excellent is not on the food but like I... More
