Consistently good food

We've been here a number of times, and are always impressed. The food is very good, good service, and inexpensive. I love the place with the pottery and art all around, as well as the pottery shop in the front. I would recommend making sure it's open before visiting because the hours are a bit... read more

This combination restaurant (the son) and ceramics studio (the father) is not to be missed. We were in Guanajuato for 5 days and ate dinner here twice. Food is innovative and delicious.

We returned to Mestizo three years after our first meal there. I was thrilled to find that the food is still as good as I remembered and the chef as delighted to do special requests as ever. The menu has greatly expanded and the prices are higher, but it's still great value for the money. We had a wonderful dinner... More

Nice food, friendly service. I had pork with pineapple and vegetables, the meat was cooked perfectly. Modern cuisine, so a nice change if you need a break from the cycle of tacos, quesadillas and gorditas. Enjoyed the wine too!

Artful surroundings, lovely service, delicious food and wine...hard to say more. This great restaurant in downtown Guanajuato exceeded our high expectations. Attached to the magnificent Capelo gallery (and decorated with many pieces of art and ceramics by Capelo), we spent a long and enjoyable lunch in January 2015. We will definitely return. (Warning: their opening time is a little flexible... More

Got there after walking for about 40 minutes to get there and were told that they could not serve us because the kitchen staff was overwhelmed with work... WHAT?? Don't go....

The Capelo family is a talented bunch....from ceramics to painting to architecture to food. One of the sons is the chef/owner of Mestizo. Every time i am in Guanajuato i go at least once. the food is fresh and creatively prepared. And while you're waiting for the food to arrive, you can enjoy the paintings on the wall, and the... For our last night in Guanajuato after we read about Mestizo's in Lonely Planet and reading reviews on Trip Advisor, my husband and I decided to go. We made the right decision. After the waiter came to describe the day’s specials, Javier, the owner/chef welcomed us and offered us a complimentary appetizer. After poring over the menu we decided on... More

I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The tortilla soup is one of the best I've ever had. I also had the Medallions of Beef in Dark Berry sauce - the flavors were understated but delicious. The margarita and sangria were also above average. Highly recommended - I will definitely eat here again - this is one of... More

We two gourmands from San Francisco California were oh so happy to eat at Mestizo twice in three days in Guanajuato. Everything we ate was excellent (puerco con limon albahaca ajo y miel; filete fasa with shrimp; rescon cuitlachche, champinones y piloncillo; pollo salteado de cilantro y limon; sopa de zanahoria y jengibre; apple tart dessert; spinach and mushroom complimentary...
