We are a family business for over 20 years we were located within the Airport Zihuatanejo, the business was called "Snack Bar - El Mirador"; but in 2008 we decided to leave the anonymity and moved to town with a new "Carmelite Cafe" concept. The mission of Carmen and Don Jesus was always clear, offer our customers the best dining experience in Zihuatanejo. During these years we have been aware of the importance of treating our guests like family. We pride ourselves everyday to trust Cafe Carmelites to treat at home; therefore, we insist that the recipes of Mrs. Carmelita, always keep the flavor of the Mexican family kitchen. We will always have an eye to providing the best quality in each of our dishes; leaving aside, a friendly smile and a humble to serve our customers heart. We cook for you like for our own home, without shortcuts, no frills, with love.

The excellent reviews are well deserved. We had fresh squeezed juice and their homemade breads followed by a sweet corn tamale. Next came the best chilaquiles I have ever tasted. A little hard to find, no ocean view, but extremely good food. The staff is very good. Carmelita obviously cares deeply about her food and customers. We have been twice and may go again. In a city with many good restaurants it deserves its ranking. One of the best restaurants I have been to in Mexico. Very reasonably priced as well

One of the best places I've eaten in Mexico or anywhere. I felt like i was eating at someone house. When we told them about Tripadvisor and Rick Bayless... their eyes lite up. The Huevos Rancheros, chilauiles, hot cakes were all amazing. They have a pastry cart with all kinds of fun stuff. We met Carmelita and she brought up... More

Ate breakfast here this morning! Delicious fresh squeezed juices and the best cappuccino in Zihua! Vegetarian omelette and traditional local dish of shredded meat and scrambled eggs! Highly recommended! Exceptional service!

Having read about Carmelitas Café Restaurante on this forum, we put it on our list of places to eat in Zihuatanejo. We had a heck of a time finding the place. After asking five people to no avail we got into a cab who assured us he knew where it was. Wrong! In any event, our cab driver called out... More

How cool is this? The number 1 Tripadvisor rated restaurant in town serves only breakfast and lunch! We were greeted by Carmelita's daughter, Carmen, who speaks excellent English. This got my attention because I'm an ESLA teacher. After chatting about how she learned English so well, Carmen guided through their menu. There were 6 or 7 choices on the blackboard... More

This was our first time to Carmelits. My wife and I, and our two boys enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. Our youngest had pancakes with fresh fruit, My other son on had a tailor made omelette, and my wife and I tried two different authentic Mexican breakfasts. The service was excellent; friendly and prompt. The food was rich with flavour, well... More

Just another happy customer of Carmelitas here to say its all true, this place is great! Their Shrimp Stuffed Chile Rellano is a thing of beauty, and smothered in a sauce so good you'll want to lick the plate clean, though you can use the handmade tortillas for that instead. Over and out!

Wonderful atmosphere, staff, service and food! Our host enthusiastically explained the menu (which was all in Spanish), and there were choices for the risk takers as well as the cautious. Located between the 'super cacajuate' mercado and the auto lavarse, (by papas locas), our cab driver had no trouble finding it. Would highly recommend! And this sounds silly, but their... More
