We are a family business for over 20 years we were located within the Airport Zihuatanejo, the business was called "Snack Bar - El Mirador"; but in 2008 we decided to leave the anonymity and moved to town with a new "Carmelite Cafe" concept. The mission of Carmen and Don Jesus was always clear, offer our customers the best dining experience in Zihuatanejo. During these years we have been aware of the importance of treating our guests like family. We pride ourselves everyday to trust Cafe Carmelites to treat at home; therefore, we insist that the recipes of Mrs. Carmelita, always keep the flavor of the Mexican family kitchen. We will always have an eye to providing the best quality in each of our dishes; leaving aside, a friendly smile and a humble to serve our customers heart. We cook for you like for our own home, without shortcuts, no frills, with love.

Best Mexican food I had ever tasted

The Mexican meals here are totally better than I expected. It's not a big restaurant but is cute and cozy. All the meals we ordered are so delicious. Everything at Carmelita's is real and full of depth and caring. Carmelita takes great pride in knowing and utilizing the ingredients and recipes of indigenous Mexico. Every garden-fresh ingredient in each selection comes from Carmelits's heart and from her lifelong love affair with cooking the food of her country. For breakfast or lunch, my wife's personal favorite is the emolada,... More

One of the best places in town. I love the squash blossom tacos! CarmeliTa is always walking around and greeting customers. We had great service and the food is always excellent. We have been going here since we first started coming to Zihua. Thanks for the great food and fun.

After hearing so many good things about Carmelitas, we went to have lunch there. The food was very good, the service good as well, and while it was very warm (open air with fans), we were favorably impressed overall. The staff is very nice and accommodating and while the food is not "over the top" it is very nice and... More

For vegans and people on plant-based diets, Carmelita's has a flexible kitchen that will tweak regular dishes in a vegan way. The other day, I had a fabulous plate of Enchiladas Verdes stuffed with mushrooms and squash blossoms (you can asked for just one or the other) and topped with a heaping mound of fresh salad, sliced red onion, and... A bit difficult to locate but now realize next to Ixtapa carwash. Clean, friendly and parking. The food and service top notch. Breakfast and must return for some authentic MX dishes including my favorites with mole sauce. The close at 4:30. Recommend.

Don't walk, run to Carmelita's Cafe! Make this your first stop and you will want to go back immediately. My husband and I came to Zihua for vacation and read up on Carmelita's Cafe and headed over for lunch (breakfast and lunch only). We were greated by warm, friendly staff who were eager to please with suggestions and explanations. We... More

Victor, who is Carmelita's son) took care of us. Wonderful, knowledgable host. Try the local specials as you can't go wrong. And some strong margaritas, especially for breakfast! We will be back. Attached pic is our friend Ron (with the one and only Carmelita).

From Intrawest up on the hill above Zihuatanejo to Carmelita's it was an interesting walk. As usual do not trust where trip advisor puts the market on the map, ask at you hotel or take a quick cab ride. This is an open air, almost backyard garden restaurant. We went first for breakfast and returned a second rime for lunch.... More
