We are a family business for over 20 years we were located within the Airport Zihuatanejo, the business was called "Snack Bar - El Mirador"; but in 2008 we decided to leave the anonymity and moved to town with a new "Carmelite Cafe" concept. The mission of Carmen and Don Jesus was always clear, offer our customers the best dining experience in Zihuatanejo. During these years we have been aware of the importance of treating our guests like family. We pride ourselves everyday to trust Cafe Carmelites to treat at home; therefore, we insist that the recipes of Mrs. Carmelita, always keep the flavor of the Mexican family kitchen. We will always have an eye to providing the best quality in each of our dishes; leaving aside, a friendly smile and a humble to serve our customers heart. We cook for you like for our own home, without shortcuts, no frills, with love.

We went, we ate, we liked!

After hearing so many good things about Carmelitas, we went to have lunch there. The food was very good, the service good as well, and while it was very warm (open air with fans), we were favorably impressed overall. The staff is very nice and accommodating and while the food is not "over the... read more

For vegans and people on plant-based diets, Carmelita's has a flexible kitchen that will tweak regular dishes in a vegan way. The other day, I had a fabulous plate of Enchiladas Verdes stuffed with mushrooms and squash blossoms (you can asked for just one or the other) and topped with a heaping mound of fresh salad, sliced red onion, and... A bit difficult to locate but now realize next to Ixtapa carwash. Clean, friendly and parking. The food and service top notch. Breakfast and must return for some authentic MX dishes including my favorites with mole sauce. The close at 4:30. Recommend.

Don't walk, run to Carmelita's Cafe! Make this your first stop and you will want to go back immediately. My husband and I came to Zihua for vacation and read up on Carmelita's Cafe and headed over for lunch (breakfast and lunch only). We were greated by warm, friendly staff who were eager to please with suggestions and explanations. We... More

Victor, who is Carmelita's son) took care of us. Wonderful, knowledgable host. Try the local specials as you can't go wrong. And some strong margaritas, especially for breakfast! We will be back. Attached pic is our friend Ron (with the one and only Carmelita).

From Intrawest up on the hill above Zihuatanejo to Carmelita's it was an interesting walk. As usual do not trust where trip advisor puts the market on the map, ask at you hotel or take a quick cab ride. This is an open air, almost backyard garden restaurant. We went first for breakfast and returned a second rime for lunch.... More

If you seek higher end Mexican cuisine (think Rick Bayless la Frontera) then run, don't walk, to Carmelitas. I've had the pleasure of eating at several very good Mexican restaurants in Guadalajara, Oaxaca and Mexico City and other Mexican cities and Carmelitas is ranks with the best. The restaurant is very casual as one would expect in Zihuatanejo and geared... More

I came here with my dad and he was not eating dairy so we asked for several tacos and they offered to mix the fillings (pumpking flower, catcus and other green herb) which he loved, the hand made tortilla is a nice touch. He ordered a green juice that was the perfect mix between pineapple, cactus and parsley. I order... More

We went to Carmelitas for breakfast and everything was delicious. We all had omelettes, mine with zucchini blossoms was especially good. Even the coffee was to die for. Service was so welcoming and accommodating to special requests for our two year old. Can't believe we've been to Zihuatanejo 3 times and this was our first trip to Carmelitas. Will be... More

We came to Carmelitas for lunch several times, it never disappoints! Excellent, fresh, quality food from the traditions of the state of Guerrero. This trip we enjoyed a fresh Tuna salad that was amazing, wondering how they could make it taste so good. Also enjoyed the Octopus, cheese and squash blossom quesadillas, the red mole, and the signature pork ribs.... More
