We are a family business for over 20 years we were located within the Airport Zihuatanejo, the business was called "Snack Bar - El Mirador"; but in 2008 we decided to leave the anonymity and moved to town with a new "Carmelite Cafe" concept. The mission of Carmen and Don Jesus was always clear, offer our customers the best dining experience in Zihuatanejo. During these years we have been aware of the importance of treating our guests like family. We pride ourselves everyday to trust Cafe Carmelites to treat at home; therefore, we insist that the recipes of Mrs. Carmelita, always keep the flavor of the Mexican family kitchen. We will always have an eye to providing the best quality in each of our dishes; leaving aside, a friendly smile and a humble to serve our customers heart. We cook for you like for our own home, without shortcuts, no frills, with love.

Well-deserved top ranking on tripadvisor

Hands down best meal in zihuatenejo. Love supporting local, family-run businesses and there is no doubt why it's ranked #1 on tripadvisor. We had costillas de puerco, elote tamal, enmoladas, requeson guisado, flor de calabaza quesadilla, and aguas frescas and everything was so delicious but our... read more

This is where the locals eat! Our dishes were delicious and our waitstaff was incredible. It's only open for lunch, I would go out of my way to eat here again!

There is a reason why this restaurant is #1 in Zihua. Incredible food topped by even better service. It was our first time this afternoon and they made my family feel at home. Walked us through the menu and made recommendations that were fantastic. Will definitely be back a time or two before we leave for home.

This place was recommended to us by other quests at Club Intrawest and the owner (Carmelita) treated us like VIPS. They make the tortillas right in front of you and explained all the special dishes they served to us in English as the menu is in Spanish. My favorite was the sweet tamales.

The Mexican meals here are totally better than I expected. It's not a big restaurant but is cute and cozy. All the meals we ordered are so delicious. We came back here for lunch 2 times after first visiting (regardless of our all-inclusive in hotel). This restaurant is the first place on my must-go-list in Zihuatanejo. -Enmoladas con pollo: Folded... More

Everything at Carmelita's is real and full of depth and caring. Carmelita takes great pride in knowing and utilizing the ingredients and recipes of indigenous Mexico. Every garden-fresh ingredient in each selection comes from Carmelits's heart and from her lifelong love affair with cooking the food of her country. For breakfast or lunch, my wife's personal favorite is the emolada,... More

One of the best places in town. I love the squash blossom tacos! CarmeliTa is always walking around and greeting customers. We had great service and the food is always excellent. We have been going here since we first started coming to Zihua. Thanks for the great food and fun.

After hearing so many good things about Carmelitas, we went to have lunch there. The food was very good, the service good as well, and while it was very warm (open air with fans), we were favorably impressed overall. The staff is very nice and accommodating and while the food is not "over the top" it is very nice and... More
