Last night my wife and I took a visiting friend to La Gula for dinner , it was excellent, the staff is very welcoming, the atmosphere is great, and the food was excellent, from opening salad, to our main course, and dessert was first class, in our opinion one of the best kept secrets in Zihau, we highly recommend. This was our second visit to La Gula. The first experience was wonderful. This last time was very disappointing. A different chef from the first time we ate there. Three of us ordered the steak. It was so tough that I had to ask for a sharper knife. We don't plan to return.

Ended up here by accident one evening and was pleasantly surprised. If you are looking for something less traditional, this is the place to go. It's quality of food was outstanding and the service was equally as fantastic. Yes there is no view and it's in the middle of a neighborhood, but it is such a uniquely fantastic place. We... More

Our appetizers were exceptional; our entrees pedestrian. Great service, lovely atmosphere. Try it and judge for yourself.

The restaurant only has a view of a brick street.... no ocean view, no hillside view. But what it lacks in location is trumped by the wonderful food served. The Medalions Diane and stuffed leg of chicken with Plantain type hushpuppy were excellent! The Thai shrimp, however, was a little bland for my taste. The great dessert menu provided a... More

Gula had the finest vegetarian dishes I experienced in Zihua. There is a beet ravioli dish that is out of this world, as well as a gnocchi dish. Salad choices include a grilled veggie salad with cheese, which was wonderful. Gula is also very pretty, situated on the 2nd floor overlooking the clabellina tree which has the most amazing (outer... We absolutely love this restaurant! Went on a Sunday night and was so disappointed that they were closed but we were able to visit on Tuesday and had a scrumptious meal as always. Service is always outstanding, our favorite meals are always the same, delicious!

We ate a lot of meals during our 10 days in Zih, at many restaurants along this street. You walk up a stairway, and sit outside overlooking the street. We enjoyed the meal, a very interesting menu, but there were many other restaurants we enjoyed more. I do not think one would be disappointed with a meal here.

We had the good fortune to win a raffle for dinner at La Gula and chose last night to experience it. And what a WONDERFUL experience it was! the ambiance was relaxed but not neglectful..the waiter was attentive and unobtrusive and spoke perfect English. The FOOD was exquisite....we had the enpanadas criollas for an appetizer, ensalada del palma, capricha de... More

Advertised as slow cooking but I would describe it as relaxed and unrushed. If you want to eat fast, go to McDonalds. We ate dinner several times this year. All selections were well prepared and the service was excellent. Very accessable for those staying near Madera Beach. Reasonably priced for the excellent quality of food.
