From steak to seafood, vegetables to burgers, anything that Rufo can throw on his grill he does -- and to much success, too. The outdoor restaurant fits perfectly with the charcoal grill flavors, fresh corn tortillas and hearty homestyle portions that makes Rufo's so popular. There's often a crowd during high season but it's worth coming early or staying late to get a taste. Rufo is a personable host and takes extra effort to make each customer's experience unique and fully satisfying. He has even been known to bring out a large platter of grilled steak, ribs, fish and shrimp for a group to sample when they can't make up their mind. There isn't a huge bar selection but the margaritas are strong and the beer is cold. On a hot Zihuatanejo night, what more could you ask for?

Good food in a good location.

Rufo's is in the same location as Patio Mexica for anyone that hasn't figured that out yet. The dinner was very good and the live music was a bonus. We also had some children come by for a short dance routine that was very nice.

Rufo's knows how to bbq. His mesquite grill is like no other on Adelitas etc. Enjoy his locally caught catch of the day (we see him in the morning buying his fish from the fishermen on shore) with the perfect smokey aroma. One thing, his tuna is a small fillet and not the thick steak some people expect but still... More

We really enjoyed Rufo's, the food was great with that wonderful wood fired grill taste. The owner and staff was extremely friendly and made us feel like we were at home.

Just down the hill from where we stayed so we ate there 3 x during our 3 week stay in Zijua. Small, friendly, great BBQ veggies, good portions & pleasant Mexican musicians at the doorway.

Rufo's is a delightful dinner spot on the Colonia Madera 'restaurant row'. Rufo seems omnipresent, greeting guests, supervising the mesquite grill, retrieving drinks, and helping bring food to the tables. And always with a cheerful, welcoming manner. The dishes are simple, using the mesquite grill to full advantage. They range from a grilled vegetable entry, with a balsamic vinaigrette to... More

As fulltime Zihuatanejo residents we always catch Rufo's at least on a monthly basis. We have found it always the same- good food with the meats cooked over a wood fire and good service. I could do without the dog under the table but a small price to pay for a fun mellow place.

I've eaten here before and checked it out again. The food is still good, offerings of meats and seafood and they offer a vegetarian dish. There's almost always live music that adds charm to the already inviting atmosphere.

Tiny open air place with terrific grilled meats and vegetables.Good drinks, the owner is very friendly. There was live music the night we were there, a couple of guys playing guitar. Everyone in the restaurant was having a great time, its a good place for couples or a big family!

Three couples visited Rufo's for the first time last night! Rufo greeted us when we arrived and all of the staff was very friendly. There were two guys playing background music which was very nice! Everyone at our table ordered the catch of the day which was a choice of tuna, seabass or mahi mahi which was all mesquite grilled.... More
