El Arrayan describes itself as an intimate little Mexican restaurant with a lot of soul. And a lot of soul is right! Everything about this restaurant makes it one of our favorites in Puerto Vallarta. The food, ambiance, staff, management, cocktails... everything! The food is prepared with care and the flavors are dynamic and rich. The Chapulines (grasshopper) tacos are... more

El Arrayan does not offer typical Mexican food, instead they offer amazing dishes from different parts of Mexico - not a lot of options, but everything (that we tried in 3 visits) was excellent. My favorite was the fish fillet. The restaurant is only a short walk from the main street, it's only slightly uphill, not a bad walk at... more

We hadn't been to Puerto Vallarta for awhile, and so El Arrayan was new to us. After reading the many rave reviews online (and hearing it praised by locals), we tried it. Their blending of unusual flavors and textures is masterful. Even the tiniest details were pitch-perfect, from the sauce on our meat-and-fruit-stuffed poblano pepper appetizer, to the perfectly crisped... more

Ugh this place was so cute, we wanted to love it!! The atmosphere is perfect, great service and very unique interior design. Our appetizer was not as exciting as I'd hoped, a somewhat bland Plantain Empanada, you could barely taste the plantains. My main dish, chile relleno was really bad. The pepper was almost raw it wasnt cooked enough and... more

After all I´ve heard about El Arrayan, I was confused by the hype. The ceviche was certainly delicious, as was the interesting drink with the crushed basil. But the empanadas were just okay, I wasn´t crazy about the texture of them. I also ordered the Duck Carnitas ... and let´s just say that for $230mxp it was a total disappointment.... more

We had dinner here during Restaurant Week in PV. The food and drinks were outstanding (although the wine list by glass is fairly limited by CA standards - there are more options available by the bottle). There was a fixed price menu for $300 pesos(about $24 USD when we were there) with 3 choices each for appetizer/salad, entree, and dessert.... more

Growing up in Arizona, I've had lots of Mexican food, but this is not your typical enchilada, burrito, taco place. If that's what you want, look elsewhere. These are unique dishes from different regions in Mexico. The service here was great, the place was laid back, casual, relaxing. Our waiter recommended the Plantain Empanadas and the taquitos and they did... more

Walk a few blocks uphill from the bustling Malecon on Calle Allende and you enter an Old Mexico patio and surrounding gallery --the stage upin which El Arrayan serves an intriguing variety of Mexican specialties. Don't bother to come if you're looking for simple enchiladas or fajitas. El Arrayan seems to delight in pushing the culinary envelope of regional gastronomy.... more

We loved El Arrayan. The food was wonderful, but the best part about this little restaurant was their excellent service. My wife had low blood sugar when we got there and she needed something to eat right away. They brought out a little food for her to snack on until our entrees had arrived...they didn't even charge extra! more

Went to El Arrayan with my wife last week. Arrived around 6PM to a near empty restaurant. Waitress brought over some spices - so we asked for some chips to go with it - she looked pissed off ant brought over a super small plate of big round chips - never bothered to have it refilled. I had the Seafood... more
