Hidden away from the tourist trap of downtown, this place is a must see (and eat!) in P.V. Our group was warmly welcomed and happy to have the place nearly to ourselves, surely due to an evening of heavy rains and visiting during the off season. The drinks were great and the food exceeded our expectations. My father, a chef,... More

The restaurant was recommended to us by one of my clients. It is a very small restaurant near the river and the food is fantastic. The margueritas are perfect. I had the chili picadillo which was great and my husband had the pork in ancho sauce which he loved. It is colorful, clean and has interesting pictures of Frida everywhere.... More

Frida Kahlo is a cultural icon in Mexico. So when I heard about The Red Cabbage Cafe and their menu inspired by dishes served by Frida Kahlo and her husband, Diego Rivera, at their many fiestas, I had to try it. Like others have mentioned the restaurant is outside the usual tourist areas in Puerto Vallarta. I decided to walk... More

One of my all time fav's. I was introduced to this by an expat living in PV. it's off the "tourist path" in one of the neighborhoods. A really great menu which highlights some traditional Mexican cuisine. They also have a plate for the Americans not so adventurous. A quaint place with excellent service and food. Definitely worth finding it... More

The food is amazing. The stuffed Chiles are a MUST. EVERYTHING was delicious and the owner Lola came to our table and greeted us The Recipes are from dinner parties of Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera. Featured in Bon Appetite Magazine 5 stars :)

I've been coming to Lola's little spot for many, many years. It simply wouldn't be a trip to Vallarta without a visit here. Yes, it is off the beaten path back in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood but I've walked it from the Zona Romantica by myself many times without a problem but you can cab or bus it easily enough.... Had heard about this eatery a few years ago, but took until this past March/14 to get there and am now sorry it took so long. The atmosphere and the food in this fabulous, out of the way, family owned and operated restaurant were more than we could have hoped for. We arrived without a reservation and I can not... More

By far-the food, service (Coco was the best) and walking through the neighborhood, made for a wonderful evening. The Mexican Plate and Mole Pablano were exceptional and ingredients were fresh. Might even go again before we leave!

Disappointing. Granted perhaps unfair to judge after spending a month in the gemstone of Mexican food-Oaxaca, but this charming, quirkily decorated restaurant has super average food. My Chiles en Nogada, one of my favorite dishes, was bland, no depth of flavor. My husband's costillas in "extremely" mild red sauce was also "so simple", probably not sufficiently braised in the sauce…according... More
