We were just there about a week ago.
We were staying down the beach at the RIU Emerald Bay and had been looking at a few places close to the resort within walking distance to check out and get off resort a few hours.
Met...a really good group of folks from all over at the resort, so about 12-13 of us decided to do a group walk down for an off-resort lunch and some local experiences (and a lot of fun!)
Make the 15 minute walk down the beach, go check out the little shops and views from the Playa Cerritos side, and then stop in here for a bite and some drinks.
Everyone ordered something different, and everyone said they enjoyed their meals.
One couple had a table-side prepared dish so you get the touristy fun of watching the flames fly while they prepare it.
Wife and I shared the big mixed platter...smallish whole lobster, shrimp three ways, whole snapper scored and fried, fried and grilled fish fillets, octopus...and just for fun we ordered a side of their cheese-stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp.
Couple folks at our table joked that we ordered "the whole ocean", but who knows when we will be back, so might as well do it big.
The platter was more than enough for two...came with some refried beans, rice/veg blend. All very good and quite tasty.
The bacon wrapped shrimp (aka Imperial Shrimp at other restaurants) were ok, average compared to others we've had, but can say we tried them.
Too much food for two people, but others in the group helped us finish lol!
I stuck to light beers, and the wife had some mango margaritas, and they were really good.
That day (week) they had live entertainment, Aaron Halliday, a performer from Canada who does an Alan Jackson style tribute (but a good mix of classic rock and country type tunes)...lots of fun and songs everyone knows from home. There was small cover charge due to the live entertainment, but was offset by the fact during his performance times, all drinks were 2 for 1.
As others have mentioned, they put abut ten different types of tequilas/mezcals and little shot glasses on the tables...sample as many or few as you like...some were really good, some a bit creepy for lack of better word (big moonshine style bottles with big preserved snakes or scorpions in them). We bought a bottle of the hibiscus flavored one to take home...should be good out at the lake lot with some soda water this summer.
Service was pretty decent even with some language barriers as our MXN espanol is not so bueno lol! Friendly and on top of things.
The views from the restaurant are beautiful, and its a great way to get some time off the resort and try some local flavors and hospitality and fun without breaking the bank. Definitely worth the walk down the beach.
Very easy to recommend and will definitely go back if we are back in the area again.More
