Quintessentially Monterrey

Please. Be in on this joke. Everyone in Monterrey knows that this place is kitschy. Everyone knows that it's completely over-the-top, with its taxidermied animals, mirrored walls, and slideshow of famous Mexicans eating cabrito... BUT THAT'S WHY YOU GO! This place is a must-see in Monterrey... read more

The cabrito meat supposed to be a must if you visit Monterrey, and the El Rey del Cabrito is something like "You can not leave Monterrey without try it!". Well, I think this food and this restaurant are typical food in Monterrey, however I didn't like the food neither the restaurant, the cabrito meat is too dried, the staff at... More

You have to try it for yourself! Be ready to leave full and satisfied. It is the best way to eat goat ever. They allow you to choose which meat to eat directly from the kitchen. The sides are wonderful and I would recommend the guacamole.

My family and I tried both El Gran Pastor and El Rey del Cabrito. Unanimously, we all thought that El Rey del Cabrito was much better, the meat was juicier, the arracherra (beef fajita steak) was also delicious as was the machito (sausage). When in Monterrey, you've gotta try the cabrito.

The food, place and staff are just amazing. The cabrito (goatling) is cooked in a traditional way. It is served with tortillas and vegetables. They created an incredible environment in this restaurant, it seems like everything has a story.

Very popular chain in Monterrey but its almost touristy. I'm not a big fan of Cabrito The side dishes are really good and service average.

Once you're in Monterrey you cannot miss "el Rey del Cabrito" however I have to say that the meat (and bones!) are about average. Service was good and fast considering it was crowded (as always is I guess). The ambient is quite peculiar of North Mexican style, and it worth seeing it, however one next trip I will try a... More

When people come to Monterrey they want to tray the local dishes. One of them is Cabrito or baby goat in English. There are few restaurants that serve this dish. El Rey del Cabrito has a very good reputation, it is an informal restaurant that serves good cabrito. Do not expect a nice place, decoration is not pretty at all.... More

Once I was given a clean bill of health from the hospital Christus Muguerza hospital, possible the best hospital and staff I have ever been to, I felt I could not leave Monterrey with trying the famous cabrito. While the service was excellent, the cabrito fell very short of my expectations. We had asked the waiter to recommend the best... More

If you happen to be in town, this place is a must in the same way as Joe's Stonecrab in Miami or Carnegie Deli in NY are. I must admit that the taste is not for everyone but is worth trying... To say that the place is quaint is a real understatement! The decor is a combination Liberace meets Northern... More
