This place was great!

We stumbled onto El Zarape after not being able to find a different place that was recommended to us by the hotel we were staying and this turned out to be a great find! We came here our first night in La Paz, and it seemed they were planning to close early due to it being new years day, but... read more

El Zarape is one of our favorite La Paz restaurants for one reason; Mexican buffet! There’s very little English spoken at El Zarape and, since my Spanish is not quite to the conversational level, I appreciate that there is usually one English-speaking waiter to explain what’s what. This is an opportunity to go beyond the usual Mexican menu and taste... More

Now open on el malecon. Had grilled tuna and chicken mole. Fish was excellent and the chicken unbelievably tender. Staff attentive. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

From the moment we arrived, we received top notch service from everyone there. We specifically went there for the buffet. The had typical Mexican breakfast fare plus the fruit, yogurt, cereal area. My GF loved everything, I was bit more selective. The food was good but not the best I've had. I guess I was comparing it to others I... More

Our first experience was a special evening and a surprise that was arranged by Baja Pirates on our 25th wedding anniversary on our first visit to La Paz. The restaurant is a traditional community location but their effort to make our visit there on a special night memorable for us was remarkable. They arranged special music, just for us, specially... Went here for a lunch buffet and was extremely satisfied with the variety of "real" authentic Mexican food. I will be returning many more times in the future Lie live entertainment was very pleasant as well.

Thoroughly enjoyed many an authentic Mexican lunch / dinner here - particularly good seafood! Very friendly service and comfortable family atmosphere. We however missed out on the good music and had to sit through a very noisy band one time, but the food and friendly service made it all worthwhile.

Six of us enjoyed wonderful Oaxaquenos food at El Zarape, along with great service and terrific dancers. The mole is superb, as is the Oaxaca mezcal! If you are an adventurous diner, try the complimentary crickets and ants. Not for everyone, but interesting.

As part of a large group we were able to sample an amazing number of dishes from all over Mexico. We were all impressed with the quality and quantity of the dishes. They also had a lovely couple preforming dances from around the country in appropriate dress.

You feel like you have been transported back in time. As you enter the restaurant you see very festive decorations. The food is produced with local and organic ingredients. The owner treats you like family. The food is amazing, Every dish is treated and presented as the house specialty. The little bit of work you do finding this gem is well... More
