As many have noted, El Rey Sol is an iconic restaurant in Ensenada that's been in operation for years and has had a long, storied trajectory. At one time, it clearly was one of Ensenada's stellar restaurants. For many years, it rested on its laurels and frankly was in a downward spiral. Yesterday, for lack of a better place to... More

The sidewalk cafe isn't quite like Paris, but it's close enough for Baja California. Good service, very good assortment of French pastries, and a pleasant atmosphere under the sidewalk canopy make a great place to relax for a bit while exploring shops on Lopez Mateos.

Rey Sol was good years ago, but now, the owner has put lots if effort to destroy its earlier reputation. The food is simply not edible, and the place looks like a mid-age torture chamber, with all and bugs! Just keep on walking!!!

I've walked by this place almost a hundred times and decided to grab brunch. Honestly, I was disappointed with both service and food. There were components of our meals missing and they made up for it with a pastry that we ended up not eating. Looks like most people are impressed with the dinner menu, but brunch was limited and... I have gone here a few times in Ensenada, before I knew about Tripadvisor. It looked like the tastiest place I could find and it definitely ended up being that way vs any other place I went to. I found it a little bit overpriced, especially compared to other parts of Mexico north of there but that's how Ensenada is.... More

This is an update to a previous review a couple of years ago. We have eaten here a few times in the past, and stopped in for a romantic dinner this past weekend. Our server Max was wonderful; very attentive and he did a marvelous job on your Caesar's Salad prepared tableside. A very nice wine list, and the menu... More

My husband and I sailed down the Baja Pennisula and into the Sea of Cortez for two years. This place provided the single best service and food of the entire trip. We dined like a king and queen for very little dinero. We have vowed to make this place a regular holiday trip.

We ate both breakfast and a late dinner with both being remarkable. A definite must for you to add to your agenda while visiting Ensenada.

This place is quite elegant, has a large interesting menu and great service. Having just come from a wine-tasting trip we did not order wine but the wine list was extensive (and a bit expensive as is most wine in Mexico). We had a large group and orders for our 13 people were taken without writing anything down! When the... More

A friend from Seattle came down with me from San Diego for a short visit to ensanada. We went to El Rey Sol for dinner and long story short, were disappointed on every level. We shared crab and avacado app which came with maybe 5 tiny crackers. The mixture was loaded with mayo and crackers gone in a few bites.... More
