My wife and I had been wanting to try this restaurant in the village of Wendake for quite some time. There is quite a variety of modern takes on traditional food on the menu but we dicided to go with the house specialty. The "Potence" is a four course meal the highlight of which is a flaming main of fresh... More

Travelling to Wendake was really a nice experience and The Sagamite confirmed the goodness of our choice of visiting the places of the Hurons. Though it was a rainy day, the staff was very friendly, and the food...special, not the ususal things you eat in Canada. We had mushroom soup that was very warm and tasty, then meat very tender... We stayed in Wendake for 2 nights & full day. We stayed @ the Musee/First Nations Hotel and sampled the area's attractions (but that's another review). On the 2nd & last night, we had dinner @ the Sagamite (pronounced Sa-GAM-e-tay according to our server). I was a little concerned, given the number of poor-to-fair & ambivalent TA reviews. I am... I went there a few years ago and I remember loving everything, so I was really excited to go back . Unfortunately, this time, nothing was up to my expectations; the waitress gave us a menu and kind of ignored us for a bit after that , not even looking at the table ( and we were the only one... Our second night stay, I decided to try the sagamité. They were renovating, expanding. Decided to order take-out and bring it to my hotel room. The food was great! The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to find me ustensils and plates so that I could enjoy my meal in my room. Would recommend this restaurant... More

It was my 4th or 5th time at this restaurant. We went as a couple, we took a visiting friend and also a few times as a group. The first visits were great. New and original food with a focus on native culture. Basket with banik and other breads with grains and dry fruits. There was a real focus on... More

The specialty of the restaurant is game, prepared as Amerindians do. game terrines as entree, followed by bison ribs, cooked in a tasty sauce, or medallions of game meats. Very tasty and excellent service. Ask for a corner table if you want a quiet meal, and avoid Saturdays, which are popular with groups. we were two couples and were given a... More

I have just enjoyed a delicious soup at this restaurant. After walking around for several hours, on a damp, dull morning, I was looking for soup. The restaurant, which serves lunch from 11:30, was busy, many tables reserved, but I was quickly placed and given time to choose. My red wine was delivered promptly, the bubbling French onion soup and... More

The best feature of this restaurant is its terrace with its scenic view. The food wants to be original but is rather ordinary in its preparation and presentation. I had a Kangaroo burger that was just OK. The service was absolutely terrible. We had to wait more than half an hour for our food.

This restaurant was our first stop in Wendake the weekend of their Pow-Wow. We had a brunch and our first taste of bison. First Nations and rustic woods décor, very good service in a lovely setting. Even the bathroom had a rustic, but tasteful touch, (see photo of tile).
