We had both lunch and dinner at KouGen - as it was so good, at a very reasonable price. Two thumbs up!
If you ever have a craving for Japanese food in this part of town, it's really the place to go. They offer a nice spread of Japanese food and in fact, we had one which wasn't even the menu, the shirashi ( not sure if it's spelt right ) sushi. If you love sashimi, you'll definitely love this one. It's... More
Everyone should at least go there once Sushi (flower fragrance) is different from the ones we usually eat. Owner provide very gd service and welcomes positive feedbacks .
We ate here because of the reviews online. And was really disappointed. For Japanese/Korean, it was really bad. Not even average. Price is expensive considering the restaurants around. I think this is a different change from the normal fare in the area, but in itself the food is not food.
The chef prepares the food with much care and attention. Quality fare is served as he ensures that food is prepared individually and tastefully. Hence, service can be slow because quality is not compromised. Good food with fair price.
We had one dinner, with sushi, udon tempura and yakitori. All delicious and a good choice if you are a little tired (and your stomach feeling a little bad) after indian currys and chinese food. The owner is also very nice! We would recommend it!
I ordered the following: pork bibimbap (top notch, ask for a raw egg to mix in), Saba fish (really good), chicken yakitori (good), Shishamo (slightly undercooked), California handroll (good and fresh, but smaller than most I've seen) King of Oolong tea (fragrant and light, serves 2) The boss gave us a free dessert in the end, up to us to... It would have been better if the food could reach our table faster but I guess there were more customers than usual the night we went there. KouGen has simple decor which hardly resembles that of a Japanese restaurant but is still comfortable to dine... More
Kougen is located on a busy street in Yanah Rata. It's really easy to find. What surprised us most was the food. I went in not expecting much and so far I had found Camerons food to be just so so, bearable compared to bigger cities in Msia. The chef specialises in Japanese Korean fare. Food was flavourful and very... More
