Loverly spot food could be better.

We managed to moor up right outside the pub just on lunchtime and were hungry for some good nosh. I ordered the duck off the specials board and the missus ordered the fish and chips (the fish is fresh from Grimsby said the waiter - oh yeah sure i thought ) when the fish and chips arrived they were... read more

Our narrowboat is moored at Thrupp so we have been semi regulars at The Boat for over 15 years. Dave and Nell ran a fantastic place but then left to run a Guest House in Harrowgate. Since then (until recently) there has been a string of hopeless Tenants gradually reducing the place to a shadow of its former self -... More

This pub restaurant is in an idyllic situation on the canal and the minute you walk in you are faced with quirky decor and unusual artefacts in an old building with lots of traditional features and charm. The menu is good with a specials board. The young waiters and bar staff are friendly and attentive. We visited on a Tuesday... More

My wife and I visited the Boat Inn for a meal when staying nearby, the meal was very good as was the service and the entire experience. With it's location and fame through an episode of Inspector Morse this is a busy pub, the only very slight downside is that the staff appeared to get a little muddled up that... More

We popped in here late one Sunday afternoon hoping to find the carvery still open. Knowing we were late, around 4pm, we were pleased to find it was. The pleasure ended there! The carvery area was closing so we had our meals plated by the kitchen. We were served a meal that probably looked at its best around 3 hours... More

Lovely setting right by the canal with a good sized garden. Very average menu - old fashioned. I ordered a 'three cheese' Ploughmans ... and got one with ham and one cheese .... as I'm veggie, asked for the three cheese I'd ordered .. it came back with more of one sort of cheese. That said my colleague enjoyed his... More

Thought I would just point out that we don't do a 'three cheese ploughmans' We do a cheese ploughmans with 3 chutneys - maybe this is what you ordered? Also I was a little disappointed at our menu being described as 'average' as we have one of the biggest vegetarian sections I have seen. More

I work in the tourism industry,so as you can imagine I need to show foreign tourists the best of England. All of my guests want to vist a typical old English pub. I spend a lot of time and energy looking for the real deal , and I found it in the Boat inn, just outside Oxford. Beautiful location along... More

Had a really good lunch at the Boat Inn, good choice, good service and very good food, especially pleased that the pies are proper pies with pastry all round not just filling with a bit of pastry on top. even my sister in law - who was paying - couldn't find anything to criticise and that really is something! Don't... More

On Thursday, 2nd July, we enjoyed an excellent meal with similarly rated service from extremely courteous staff who acted in an understanding, professional manner. Our only misfortune was to be seated near a group of six people, of whom two sounded suspiciously like they had PhDs in whingeing! Not only did they complain after finishing their perceived distasteful meal, but... More

Ate here the other day, was greeted by a warm and friendly member of staff who seated us with menus and informed us of what specials they had even down to the special sundaes! (go for the brownie sundae) We had the seafood platter to share as our started which was yummy! Then fish and chips, rump steak and king... More
