Went here for dinner on return from holiday. Four of us were seated quickly and the waitress was very attentive. Food arrived fairly quickly, - two gammon steaks and two "whale of a fish" which turned out to be pollock and very tasty. Large portions of the main course meant that we were too full for desserts, however they looked... More

Having been here quite a few times, you always know you're going to get a tasty decent quality meal at the Turnpike for good value. There are better food pubs in the Oxford area but only if you go to the more expensive gastro pubs. At the Turnpike you get pub grub, however its always freshly cooked, good quality ingredients... Not been through Yarnton for many years but decided to try the Turnpike Inn since, as part of the Village Inns group, the quality should be good. It is situated not far form the main A34 Oxford by-pass so not much off the beaten track. The outside appearance is of an old inn, inside a lot of the charm is... More

Went here for a meal with wife and 2 daughters. ordered the fish (mine arrived uncooked and water like), one of my daughter steaks couldnt even be cut through with a steak knife, (This isnt the first steak we have had from here that is tough as old boots) Are they using cattle on their last legs???. The waitress apologised... More

Over the years we had eaten at The Turnpike quite a few times and when we mentioned to my brother who lives locally about a venue for a party of 10 to celebrate our daughters 18th, he thought of here. Thank goodness we went to try it our first and didn't embarrass ourselves in front of guests. We were served... More

Stopped off for lunch as it looked v nice in the sun. Ordered starters and mains at the bar. Starters came quickly and we're ok. Then waited and waited. After 30 mins my girlfriend went to the bar to chase up. Was told it was on its way apologies guy there was a large group. I then chased 10 mins... More

We have just come back from the Turnpike. As it was very busy, we were told we would have a wait (not a problem). When we received our food it was delicious, and my pint of Tribute was fantastic "just the ticket on a hot summers day". I would like to point out an incident that occurred while I was... More

Having had a very good experience previously, for both food and service, we decided to break our journey here again as it is a very convenient spot off the motoroway. However this time the service was slow, our drinks were forgotten, my steak was small and a little overcooked and my partners lamb shoulder was tiny with lumps of fat... More

We had an anniversary meal out at the Turnpike and had very good quality pub food. I had a beef and merlot pie which was fabulous. The staff were friendly and efficient and the only mistake was that we were given the wrong bill. It was quickly rectified, however, so not a big deal.

Stopped here on the way back from holiday. There were 12 of use and the order was placed at 4 separate, but adjacent times and we were told there was a wait of 50 mins. After 40 mins the 1st two dishes arrived, the 5 mins later the next, then 10 mins later more food arrived. After a further 20... More
