A Great Meal in A Relaxing Atmosphere

We recently had dinner at the Red Lion with a group of friends. The dining room is warm and welcoming and large. I had the crab entree which was nice but didn't have a lot of flavour. I also had rabbit which was done like a cassoulet, which was very tasty. My friends had the chicken lie, which... read more

Visited for lunch on Saturday with one person who had eaten there before and recommended it. However, 2 out of 3 dishes were just awful. The mackerel pate was just some dry flakey fish with a weird dry roll of roughly chopped raw onion - maybe they were going for some clever deconstructed take on pate? Didn't work. The superfood... My wife and I arranged to meet two friends for Sunday lunch and chose the Red Lion in Granchester. Soon after arriving for a 13.00 table booking, it became clear that this was a bad choice. The service was extremely slow and when the food eventually arrived after a very long wait, all four meals but especially the Rabbit was... More

From The moment we walked in we received a warm welcome, our table was ready and we were met with our waitress chloe, she made our first experience of the pub a wonderful one. She couldn't do enough and was very friendly. The food was amazing and considering how busy they were all our meals came in good time and... More

Came for a meal here. The food is overpriced for what you get, my wife and I had a chicken pie and my son rabbit which came with veg but they charge extra for spuds chips etc. We did not realise that no spuds were included till it was on table in front of us. I feel that the waitress... More

Visited here for lunch on a Saturday, I used to come here every week before it was refurbished. Since then its a bit pricey for a work lunch but thought I would give it a try with my partner. The menu was small and we struggled to find something we both wanted to eat for lunch. In the end, I... More

Our friends and ourselves have been visiting this restaurant for over ten years three or four times a year as it is a halfway house between where we live (Nottinghamshire) and where our friends live ( Essex), and is conveniently off the M11. It used to have a comprehensive menu of meat, fish, salads and a typical bar food menu.... More

A slightly mixed experience - excellent, attentive service with a misunderstanding over vouchers effectively and discreetly sorted out. Table was ready and prepared when we arrived. Scrumptious roast beef and yorkshire pud, but rabbit cassoulet let down by undercooked beans.

Been here a few times now and never been disappointed. Clean, comfortable and modern interior. Good, attentive and friendly service. Tasty well priced food. Pretty outside tables with kids play area. Our last visit was last Sunday for a family birthday. There was 9 of us on the table and everyone of us enjoyed our food, drink and overall experience... More

This was our second Sunday lunch here and both visits have been lovely. We will definitely be back. Both for and service have been first class.
