Top class and top prices

Interesting experience. We came for the duck and weren't disappointed. Starters were of a good portion size and quality, bearing in mind the main course to come, and the shared whole duck was good quality and well-prepared. Special mention for my shared tarte tatin, flamed in calvados. Overall I would say the whole was slightly less than the sum of... More

My parents have been eating here for more than fifty years. The Kings Head manages to maintain consistently high standards of service and attention to detail and I have always been impressed. The menu choices were good, quality and presentation of food were first-class and it represents excellent value for money.

We had lunch at the Kings Head on Friday February 20th to celebrate a golden wedding anniversary. The food was good but we were very disappointed in the menu choice as there was very little for non red meat eaters who also do not eat fish which ended up with someone having to have pork for both starter and main... We opted for the tasting menu and were suitably impressed by both the quality and value for money. The sea bream with fennel was particularly good. Also, unlike some establishments, the wine was not outrageously overpriced. Service was, while not perfect, quite adequate.

Fabulous evening, delicious food, lovely vibrant atmosphere (every table occupied) and excellent staff all on a week night. Thank you.

I have been occasionally going to the Kings Head for the last 40 years, but I think I've been for the last time. It's difficult to pin down what isnt the same, but it has lost that classy experience. It really is very ordinary now, and seems to have changed significantly in the last three years. Our food was ok,... More

The second time we'd been here and it seemed much better than the last. Every single mouthful was delicious, from the amuse bouche in the bar with a glass of champagne, to the homemade bread and butter, the scallops with "tempura capers", the duck with crispy skin and chunky apple sauce and prefect flowering broccoli, the tarte tatin flamed at... I hadn't been to the King's Head for many years but have very fond memories of the place. It still has the same welcoming and homely feel and whilst the menu has moved with the times, the emphasis remains on high quality food cooked with style. The homemade butter that came with the bread is a real wow factor as... More

The food here was as one would expect and we both enjoyed the meal but the service was appalling. No one to meet and greet on arrival and as it was our first time we were unsure of where to go, loitered in the restaurant for almost ten minutes unnoticed or ignored!! Owner?/maître d was patronizing and not particularly welcoming... More
