Wonderful Afternoon in High Rock!

The day was started with our car rental (Island Jeep Car Rental), and a suggestion by Stanley to stop here. Since we wanted to see more of Grand Bahama Island, we headed out to this spot in High Rock. We ended up meeting Doris, who delivered the most delicious conch fritters and we had the beach... read more

This place was highly recommended and we were well received. It's kind of a shack on the beach, which was fine with us but the food was terrible. Highly over seasoned, poor quality...couldn't even eat the burgers. Go for a drink, wander on the beach but skip the food!

My family was staying in Freeport for a week during March Break. After a couple of poor excursions ( avoid the glass bottom boat tour!!! ) we hired a taxi to take us on a tour to the park ( Gold Rock Beach ). During the tour our driver took us to the Diamond Sunrise for lunch. It was definitely... More

Great little restaurant on a beautiful beach. Doris makes the best cracked conch and lobster on the island. Even though it is out of the way -- need a car to drive to drive to High Rock -- we never miss it when vacationing in Freeport. Went twice on our most recent trip!

If you are a fan of bbq chicken & ribs or southern style food, this little diner on the beach at High Rock is a gem. Completely unassuming, you’re lucky to stumble upon it. The service is genuinely friendly. My only tip is to bring lots and lots of bug spray for the sand flies at dusk. The sides are... More

This is THE place to go if you want to experience the real Grand Bahama. The setting; right on the most beautiful deserted beach, is spectacular. The food is wonderful (especially the cracked conch and the ribs - in Doris' famous bbq sauce). But, its the warmth of welcome that really sets this place apart. Captain Vick and Doris make... More

I did a little research online before we left and found a number of people suggesting this place. We rented a car at the cruise terminal in Freeport and I asked the person renting us the car where he recommended we eat near Lucayan National Park. He ended up recommending the same place I found online, Diamond Sunrise run by... More

We were told we had to eat at Doris'. They definitely had the best conch fritters on the island. However, they were a little dirty and flies were everywhere, cutting down on the comfort of the location. The bathrooms were also a little scary. The waitstaff was friendly, but the food took forever. It was a 1 hour wait for... More

We stayed in Pelican Point for a week. Bahama John's was closed for the week (maybe permanently?) so our only options for food were Zelma's, Bishops and Doris's/Diamond Sunrise. Zelma's was good, but Doris's was our favorite. We ate dinner three times during our stay. Bishops is right next door but I would not recommend a visit there. -The conch... More

We have previously visited the adjacent restaurant Bishop's, but this time decided to give Diamond Sunrise a try (note it is also called Doris's Place on the local signs). We are very glad we did. Service was good, friendly and informative. The fried snapper with chips was very tasty with the fish coated in a spicy flour before frying so... More
