The previous reviewers have said it all. The food is freshly made (you can actually see the ladies baking through the kitchen hatch). Everything about it is lovely: the standard of the food, the price, the people, the setting. We will definitely seek it out again next time we are in Wales.

The Old Barn is just a few miles north of Merthyr on the way to Talybont-On Usk and located just below the final stop on the Brecon Mountain Railway. As with all old buildings, do no go there to expect a new build - it is rustic. Julie and the staff are extremely friendly and hospitable. The prices are also... More

We have been on a mission to try and find the best cream tea in South Wales. This so far wins hands down. It is in a lovely environment. nestled with easy access of the road and with rolling valley side and forest. The service of the staff is always with a smile, the time taken to make the food... More

Came across this tea room during a drizzly drive just at the point where we fancied a cup of tea & what a find! Lovely welcome from the delightful ladies who run this old-fashioned tea room in a charming, primrose-painted barn. Lovely strong proper leaf tea, excellent scones & the best Victoria sponge (with clotted cream!) that I have ever... More

Having just done 10 miles across Pen Y Fan and the other peaks...plus two more climbs we needn't have...we were desperate for a perfect cup of tea and a needy scone. And that it was - cracking quality food, friendly staff and lovely birds in the garden. So good we went back today for more.

Stopped here by chance while driving round admiring the scenery. I sat outdoors and was entertained by the gorgeous chaffinches, jays and other birds which were flying around. Having chosen the cream tea, I hadn't realised just how big the scones were and was unable to finish it - however the birds appreaciated the leftover scone! The staff were so... More

Having been on a long walk in the Brecon Beacons, we caught sight of a sign for The Old Barn Tea Room as we returned to our car. We are so glad that we made the effort to find it. This little gem, tucked away in the trees is a delight, with its china crockery, wonderful service from some of... More

Nice setting, clean and the tables were well set out and laid with bone china crockery. A varied menu with a selection of home baked cakes, The cream was extremely nice, we needed more cream and jam and this was freely given. Looking forward to having Sunday lunch soon.
