Sushi in Carribean?

Well, we eat a lot of sushi back home, but were not planning to do it in Grand Cayman. We noticed the restaurant the day we checked in and thought we would give it try. We liked the ambience of a Manhattan club and the nice bar. We started with miso soup and had a great variety of sashimi... read more

We visited Taikun twice during our stay and it was one of the nicest dining experiences I've had in Grand Cayman. Head Sushi Chef Jaka (from Jakarta by way of Singapore) was incredibly kind and had some very creative dishes. My girlfriend (now financé) and I got engaged while on island and went to Taikun for dinner that night. I... More

Great evening at Taikun, we arrived early for our reservation and seated immediately next to a window view. It's the setting, ambiance & experience that adds value to this high end sushi restaurant. We started with Goose martinis, seaweed salad & snapper ceviche all perfect...the quality & quantity of the food and nice barware for our rocks martinis. Then we... More

My husband loves sushi and he values authenticity. I am not sure if you can call this place a Japanese restaurant. Most of the staffs and chefs I saw were not Japanese, but from Southeast Asia. Rightfully, this restaurant was more like a Southeastern-flair (like Thai). I wouldnt mind sushi being a little creative in a mid-range restaurant, but not... More

Taikun is off the main lobby of the Ritz Carleton hotel and atmospherically combines a bit of modernity with the clubbiness of the Ritz Carleton -- dark wood paneling, comfortable upholstered chairs, padded booths. It is a soothing, comfortable dining experience. It is not inexpensive -- but generally sushi isn't. We ate at Taikun 3 times during a ten day... More

We were hesitant to try Taikun as everytime we've had sushi in the Caribbean, it has been mediocre. Taikun had excellent sushi, fresh and creative with lots of quality ingredients. Service was excellent. My husband did the Omakase which is a chef's pick menu. He really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Japanese Fusion... get out of here! The Sashimi was good but you can't make too much wrong if the basic ingredients are good. The Tempura had no clue that it was supposed to be a Tempura. Overall, if you are looking to dine real Japanese this is not the place you want to go. Then try Mizu.

Taikun ranked #54 in Cayman, but one of the most expensive. Dinner with family on week night. Reserved a "quiet-private" table. Upon arrival, shown to the most high traffic-least quiet table in the place. Rejected table, pointed out the quiet one in back and was moved there. Sushi is our favorite food, we have eaten it all over the world,... More

Excellent meal for our anniversary while visiting Grand Cayman. Our server Arpi was awesome. Very helpful and honest about the menu options. The off-menu hamachi with truffle ponzu appitizer was amazing. Excellent rolls and amazing nigri. Fish is very fresh. Highly recommend for sushi lovers. They even freshly grate wasabi table side.
