Took a cruise and first stop was in San Juan PR. My husband and youngest son had never been to PR. So my oldest son and I decided to take them to see El Morro since we were only on island for a few hours. My youngest son is a Chef and heard about Raices. We chose to have dinner... More

There are advertisements for Raices all over San Juan. Our taxi driver also recommended this for our first dinner. We were pretty disappointed. Raices is very touristy and overpriced. All the food was super greasy; probably the best part of our meal was the salad. Actually, the mojito was great - one bright spot in an overall disappointing dining experience.

I hate to say it but the best part was the salad. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of the mofongo, it was really greasy and the mashed plantain was not very flavorful. My friend ordered the chicken, she enjoyed hers more, but also agreed that the best part was the salad. We actually ordered seconds of... More

After a recommendation from a friend, we ate here for lunch while in Old San Juan. Great food, reasonable prices, and the best Tres Leches cake I've tasted :)

Vacationed Puerto Rico November 2014 and tried Raices for lunch. True Puerto Rican flavor. The rice and beans were very good! We tried the chicken, steak, and shrimp and all were great. There's a very warm hospitality and the waitstaff were very informative. I read some other reviews that were very much the opposite but maybe because of time of... More

Food is just okay but the theme restaurant is nice for a tourist lunch in San Juan near where the cruise ships dock.

There are so many restaurants on recinto Sur how does one choose? Today it was Raices. Some may be put off by the traditional dress worn by waitstaff. Food was very good. We both ordered specials (stuffed ripe plantain with beans and rice and grouper with mofungo). The green salad was sparse and anemic. Tip: expect delays if you go... More

A standby for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine in Old San Juan. This restaurant is famous for their mofongo, so you definitely need to get that! We ate an appetizer sampler. Everything pretty much tasted the same. All were pretty bland with the dipping sauces being the most exciting part of the dish. The fried pork chop is massive and delicious.... More

Recommended by the locals...and while I'm not going to rave about this restaurant, it was decent. We enjoyed the food, service, and outside seating.
