My tour-guide, best friend, and Puerto Rico native brought me there my first morning and I was there every day after that! The quesitos, and their cafe con leche are unrivaled at anywhere else I tried. Kasalta has been a local favorite for over 20 years, and it is easy to see why. My experience there was limited to pastries,... more

We stayed near Kasalta on our vacation and happened to stop in there for lunch on our first day. We ate there every single day after that for the rest of our vacation! Needless to say, it was delicious. We were two females and only half of one of their sandwiches would fill us up, so we just split a... more

Love the peop;e watching at this place in the Ocean Park area,; chic people, young tuffs, Police Officers (ALL super macho) and the patries and the cafe con leche...I love this simple place and the good air conditioning is a real pleasure. Great wine-by-the glass selection and even a small gourmet foot area where you can order a variety of... more

Kasalta underwent a makeover about 2 years ago, which was a big improvement. The coffee is great, and the food is excellent, however cheap it is not! There are much better options close by, with a lot more flavor and local charm. Kasalta attracts a toffee-nosed crowd, and the older staff tend to verge on the rude if they think... more

This isn't anything fancy but it's a great place to go for a filling meal without the fuss. My husband and I ate brunch at Kasalta's every day we were in San Juan as it was just down from our hotel, which had an overpriced bagels and fruit breakfast. It's easy to split a sandwich and large soup and dessert.... more

I've visited several times while vacationing in PR. This time, I went there to have a light snack before flying out. Prices has gone way up and the food quality has decreased. Caldo Gallego soup was very good, but the chicken soup was not hot or appetizing. The provide bread but charge for the butter. The place it's just a... more

This place really strives to appeal to the local self-anointed aristocracy. Prices have skyrocketed after they remodeled. Potato or elbow macaroni salad at $15 a lb is just outrageous (and probably the highest price you'd pay anywhere on the globe for these items). The imported cheese counter boasts offerings priced between $20 and $40 a lb. A full, high-end lunch... more

From a tourist's perspective, Kasalta provides great local flavor, not to mention terrific coffee, pastries, and lighter Puerto Rican food. Kasalta is on McLeary Ave in the Ocean Park section of San Juan, and is much more like something you would find on the streets of Madrid or Buenos Aires than in any US city. This is my favorite place... more
