Coffee Break in Old San Juan

Tasting Puerto Rican was a must for us during our day in Old San Juan. And amazingly mild and tasty it was! The coffee is roasted right there in Cafe Cuatro Sombras so the aromas were amazing. The portions are much smaller than we are used to on the mainland, but still worth the experience. I... read more

This cafe lived up to all the wonderful reviews we read. We stopped in the late afternoon on our walk. The staff was wonderful and the bakery hit the spot. The place was full of Joyful conversation over lattes, travelers asking questions, and an elderly man greeting everyone with a warm handshake. They just expanded to a new beautiful patio... More

Simply the best coffee shop in Viejo San Juan. Coffee is always great, whether hot or iced. Their food is also really good - I love the guava butter toasts and their ham, cheese and marmalade croissant. A must when visiting San Juan.

Only food my gf can eat around Old San Juan. Well all the food here are awesome but super heavy and she is more about American food so it's really her problem not the food here. But the coffee and the sandwiches in Cafe Cuatro Sombras is absolutely amazing. MUST try if you walk around this area. Very crowded when... More

I consider myself a coffee connoisseur, and I am pretty hard to impress as I have my favorite coffee shops around the globe. This shop may be one of my favorites... definitely a favorite in Puerto Rico. They have great local coffee roasted in-house, and knowledgeable baristas. They work on a La Marzocco, which I tend to prefer. There is... More

The place was packed with kids and soo noisy ! It seems its a resting spot for families with multiple kids. Americano coffee was actually an espresso cut with water, had to ask for milk which seemed to annoy the cashier Sharely. We felt apologetic for asking for milk. We took coffee to go and went outiside to get some... More

I wandered into this small boutique coffee shop that roasts its own locally sourced puerto rican coffee. The coffee was delicious and the shop also features panini sandwiches along with homemade soups that are reasonably priced. I spoke with one of the employees who stated the family run business has existed since 1846 (170 years). I will definitely become a... More

Atmospheric, high-quality coffee shop. There is a secret back entrance where they speak Spanish to you that I discovered the last day of my trip (I was in SJ for 5 days and literally went to Cuatro Sombras every day, sometimes more than once!) The front entrance is the main part of the cafe, and then they have a gorgeous... More

I used this coffee shop for a business meeting. My coffee was good, the surroundings were ice and I think we could have sat there all day with one cup of coffee and we would never have been asked to leave. If you want a good cup of coffee, you can get one here.
