Good food in a cute bistro

My brother and I stopped in for lunch. He had the fish tacos and I had the two small burritos. The sour cream on the burritos was house made and probably the best sour cream I've ever had. My brother enjoyed his tacos as well. Good margaritas made with fresh squeezed lime juice. Bar tender was... read more

Reviews led us to another great place! Our server made us feel right at home and helped suggest great margarita combinations. From another review, I got persuaded to get the Tortilla Soup and I'm very glad about that, it was unforgettable. The server asked if we were into hot sauces and brought out 2 very tasty concoctions. 1 was a... More

Don't go to La Madre if you're looking for a traditional mexican meal, go there if you're looking for great, creative mexican and puertorrican food fussion. They don't take reservations and have limited space so plan ahead, don't go late on a friday night if you want a quick bite. When you get there ask for their signature margaritas, I... More

Of all the fine restaurants to choose from in Old San Juan, we chose La Madre as a repeat for our last night in Puerto Rico. Though it's a small place, the ambiance is comfortable and the service is excellent. We enjoyed a pitcher of frozen mango margueritas during our first visit, and tried the watermelon mojitos and mango mojitos... More

The other Tripadvisor reviewers are correct! This is a fabulous Mexican restaurant situated in the picturesque Old San Juan. Combining both traditional and contemporary Mexican cuisine, the meal we experienced was fabulous! The duck quesadillas were amazing as were the fish tacos. The cucumber margarita was not too shabby either!

Well at last! A decent San Juan restaurant with great food and service, funky but modern décor and great music that isn't deafening! WE chose this from our guide book, but we checked it out during the previous night en route to another resto. Old San Juan is steep and small, so getting around on foot (our preferred mode) is... Do not miss the seared ahi tuna tacos! The tortilla soup was also delicious. ..unlike any I've ever had. Another primo recommendation from Eduardo at Da House.

This place gave me a really bad service. We waited way too long for a food and the servers were not paying attention to our table, but yes to the one across. At the end we just asked for the check ourselves and left no tips.
