We were told about Raices, the quality has gone down as the tourist numbers have grown so ate a late lunch at Cafe Manolin. Service was quick and our food was there when I got back from washing my hands. Mofongo with chicken wi a side of beans and rice and plantains split between the two of us and we... More

Enjoyed our breakfast and found the serving sizes more than adequate and reasonably priced. Loved the old diner style- like going back in time and didn't feel out of place as tourists. Watching them make the fresh squeezed orange juice was interesting- not something you see that often. Next time I would love to try their lunch menu for a... More

The place gets crowded - but well worth it as the food was great! It is a short walk from the SJ Suites Hotel, and in the middle of Old San Juan.

We stopped here thirsty and hungry after walking around Old San Juan. Food was good. I had my first mofongo here. It was tasty. Portions were huge. Prices were reasonable. Waiter explained the different food choices and was very pleasant.

We were told to get the "pastellón de amarillos" to place an order early-glad we did. The dish consists of plantains, ground beef, and other goodies. My husband talked about this dish for days. It's a local favorite. Everything else there looked good, too.

if you want to have an idea of what my Puerto Rican mother-in-law's cocina criolla (home cooking) is like. Your fellow diners will be local workers far outnumbering tourists. But if you come here for local flavor, don't order a hot dog or a tuna sandwich and say you're disappointed. Try mofongo or one of the lunch specials with arroz... More

I'm from Seattle, so I'm not qualified to say what's "local food" in San Juan. We asked a police officer where we should go for a local restaurant. We were standing next to several nice looking restaurants, and without hesitating he pointed us several blocks away to Cafe Manolin. Although I can't tell you it's local, I figure when you... More

Went for breakfast. Well for starters they don't have tea so my first instinct was to leave. However, I plumped for the freshly squeezed orange juice, which was very good despite the fact that the oranges that were being fed in to the machine looked as though they had seen better days! Also if you don't like or eat eggs,... More

We stopped In while visiting old town. There was quite a crowd but we got a seat at the diner, when we left, a line had formed. Not sure what anyone would wait for at this place. Ordered an iced tea which was instant and not brewed, so started out not so great. We each had a 'special of the... More

We had coffee and buttered toast both of which were fine. Sat at the bar and service was brisk even though the place was really busy. A good set of selections available for breakfast. Nice local diner. Very reasonable prices.
