Authentic taste of San Juan

We were tipped to this place by cruise shipmates. After spending the day walking around San Juan we had worked up an appetite. Heard it filled up quickly and the line waiting for the door to open at 5 proved the point. We were immediately seated but the place was full in minutes. We had a conch... read more

We are here on recommendation from our hotel as it represented Puerto Rican food, which it does. However whilst it was OK it wasn't the best. Mojitos around the corner is by far better. The service was not the best - we felt we were treated and regarded as tourists (which is what we were) but it resulted in us... More

If you want to eat authentic Puerto Rican food, this is a good place to go. It's right in the center of Old San Juan. We went on a day that there was a festival so it was very crowded, but I understand it's always popular. The host was a hoot. He knew everybody and gracefully got people to wait... More

We were told that this restaurants fill up fast. So we were in line before it opened at about 11:45. It opened at noon. Service was very laid back. We only ordered drinks and the Shrimp Mofongo. We didn't leave until 1:30. We tried both types, one with garlic cream sauce and tomato sauce. The tomato sauce was our favorite.

Stumbled on this place while walking around town. The waitress was very nice, and helped us understand the menu.. The food was tasty, and serviced timely.. The kitchen staff even came out with the food to make sure it was cooked how we liked.. Overall we liked the place The only criticism we had was there was no kids menu... More

After a long day exploring the forts in Old San Juan, we were pointed to Cafe Puerto Rico by the Park Ranger at the fort. It was close by and not too busy early in the evening, and we were able to sit outdoors by the plaza as the sun set and the night became alive. Very fun atmosphere, great... More

We were in Old San Juan the other night and made reservations at Cafe Pareto Rico based on the reviews on TA. We arrived right on time and they sat us promptly. However, we were upstairs in the small bar/seating area and felt a little out of place. We had a two top right against the wall. There were a... More

We had lunch upstairs with a view to the plaza. The food was amazing. There were six of us. We had conch for appetizers and loved it (we enjoy abalone and they are similar to us in texture). For lunch, Three of us ordered the stuffed Munfungo, an edible bowl made of plantain stuffed with shrimp, pork, or chicken. We... More
