I don't understand the rave reviews

A local couple we met at another restaurant highly recommended this restaurant. They warned us about the wait, so we went early - 5:30 on a Wednesday night. The tables were all full at that point, but I didn't see many people waiting. The hostess put our name on the list and said it would be AT... read more

Jose Enrique is an excellent restaurant. Be prepared to wait--go before 6 or after 9 if you don't want to wait. The drinks were unusual and excellent. Sat at the bar and had fun meeting some local residents. The suckling pig....amazing. Listen to the recommendations of your servers. This is a small restaurant, intimate and delicious.

a friends emailed me about this restaurant and we are so lucky. This is a major find (as is verde Mesa). They take the best of current Puerto Rico and in the case of Enrique is encouraging local farmers to produce the produce that the land is capable of. It is a plain restaurant, in a nothing neighborhood, but has... More

We took a little sidetrip from airport to San Juan to dine here, after we read the New York Times article that raved about this place. Thought we beat the dinner crowd, but still had to wait an hour, which isn't unusual in this popular, no reservations restaurant. And worth the wait. The four of us shared the whole red... More

This restaurant is named after Chef Jose Enrique who has been nominated for the James Beard award. The restaurant is very cool, casual and inviting. Actually had a chance to meet the chef and he was generous enough to make suggestions and even brought us a complimentary pork shank confit dish. It was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious . We... More

Friends and I were told about this restaurant before our trip to Puerto Rico. As recommended, we arrived early in order to avoid a long wait (we waited about 30 minutes after arriving at 5:30 on a weeknight). The menu is written on a dry erase board as the selection changes based on availability. We had an appetizer that was... More

Very good place to bring visiting friends. Small and gets very crowded during weekends. Be prepared to wait over an hour just like all the good restaurants around La Placita de Santurce. It's part of the plan, to spend time around the area while you wait. Very good wine and desserts too.

I had not plan to meet with friends for lunch, but it such happens that I ran into them at Jose Enrique. We had a long lunch from 3-8pm. Dish after dish was excellent, we shared every plate on the menu, almost. The service was excellent amd the drinks great. The only observation was that one of our friends wanted... More
