We stepped back in time when we walked through the doors of La Bombonera. Diner counter, uniformed staff, pastry counter and display case out front. The mallorca here is the best! It's a Spanish pastry toasted and filled with egg, cheese, bacon, ham, etc. Whatever you like. Very popular. If it's too crowded, just mosey a block up the street... more

I have a PR firend who loved this place and had many memories as a child eating here. We went there several times over the past 3 years. We do not go anymore. The wait staff gives the impression, they wish they had no one to wait on. Sad, but true. Coffee is very good but not especially hot. They... more

If you need a sugar fix...you'll need to head here because their mallorcas were the yummiest sweetest goodness I've ever had for breakfast. The taste is similiar to a McGriddle without the syrup spilling everywhere. We ordered one with ham, egg, and cheese and also the cinnamon roll version. Just order it, you won't regret it. Top it off with... more

Go here for Mallorcas- fluffy, sugary and delicious. Have some with butter or have some with ham and cheese. I actually sampled from other places but La Bombonera's Mallorcas have no competition. Also, limonada nacional was great, icy and tangy. We did not sample any other item in the menu but everything looked delicious. Although the place was packed with... more

I greatly anticipated breakfast at La Bombonera - and it was all I expected. We ordered a variety of mallorcas and how yummy they were! The special bread is baked there on the premises, then it is stuffed with butter, eggs, cheese, a variety of breakfast meats - or any or all of these items. Once you've made your selection... more

I agree with everything of the previous poster. My husband did have a very good Cubana sandwich. And we did get a selection of sweet pastries to take with us. They were delicious! more

Maybe Rachel Ray ruined this place... Everybody under the sun said to try this place for the mallorcas and coffee. I have to say, the ambience is kind of cool - reminded me of any established old diner in the States. The coffee is quite nice as well (actually, spectacular), but the food was pretty disappointing. The mallorcas are nothing... more

We loved this place! I ordered the cubano sandwich and my boyfriend ordered a chicken and rice dish. We sat at the counter. It was awesome! The bread was so good and homemade. We learned on the way out that Rachel Ray recommended this place on her how to eat $40 a day and under special on tv. Next time... more

There's something special about eating a mayorca (pastry) with powder sugar and fresh squeezed OJ from La Bombonera. La Bombonera is an Old San Juan institution which I have been patronizing since I was in high school! I used to take the bus from my home town to go eat there. Today it is my first stop when I travel... more
