Beer was only 1.50 CUC, great value and great food. The chicken looked amazing and the terrasse was clean with no stray animals wandering around (which seems to be part of the landscape throughout Varadero)

The food in this restaurant is passable for the value of you money. The drinks though are another story. We ordered mojitos which were very weak and very expensive. the server didn't seem to understand English very well and she was grumpy. I do not recommend this restaurant.

I got drawn in by the menu, with Chicken Cordon Blue on my mind. Turned out overcooked and a fishy taste to the batter. The wifes shrimp dinner was bland. Oh well Lots of great spots to eat in Varadero, this has a great view of 1st ave traffic.

This restaurant was a disappointment, it's not cheap (6$ for chicken and vegetables) the chicken looked like it had been reheated from lunch and it was dry...the vegetables were tasteless. There are mosquitoes and most of the tables are poorly lit, ants were wandering on the table... The server asked for a tip when she was bringing the "cuenta" usually... More

So our hotel food was nothing to rave about and my friend and her kids were to afraid to try food elsewhere. I decided to go shopping at the market in Varadero, and one of the hotel staff told me about La Vicaria, since I said I wanted to try real Cuban food. I ordered the shrimp cocktail appetizer, and... My husband and I were really looking forward going to this elegant looking and well reviewed restaurant for what we thought was going to be a great meal. We quickly learned that appearances can be deceiving...such a let down....poor service, very salty slightly overcooked fish, bland shrimp, average Cuban rice (we had had better!), tasteless vegetables, and skimpy salad, no... This place served typical cuban food like it said. I thought the cuban soup was amazing even though it was so simple lol. I got the beef shredded in tomato sauce and it was good except the beef was so salty. Hubbie got the chicken and that was perfect and really good.

La Vicaria used to be the elite restaurant in Varadero back in the day.Last time i went i was a tad dissapointed. The serviced wasn't the greatest: the waiters weren't uniformed properly, talking loud amongst clients and on their phones the entire time. The food took a while and it was not that good neither. The menu options were limited since... More

Discovered this place because all the tour bus drivers were eating here. Good variety, Cuban style food. Group of 8 people, service was quick, got very busy after we arrived. Had 1/4 chicken with rice & black beans and 2 beer for $7 pesos. Paid $25 for basically the same meal 2 days before in Havana. highly recommend.
