Local food by friendly people

We got taken to this place by our guide, so never really sure whether there's some kind of quid pro quo thing going on but really couldn't fault it. Lovely airy place in a rather nice part of Havana. The food was tasty and seemed to be very authentic. I guess a lot of people are a bit fed up... read more

My wife and I ate dinner here after reading reviews on the incredible, all-you-can-eat roast chicken. Overall the meal was ok, but didn't live up to the hype and probably wasn't worth the taxi ride (it's a bit out of the way, to the west of Vedado).

A large group of us, over 100, converged on this restaurant on Sunday evening, April 27, 2015, and we were hungry. This restaurant did not disappoint. The chicken, black beans and rice were delicious and kept coming. The service was amazing considering how many of us were dining. Highly recommend this restaurant to all vising Havana, Cuba.

This is a family restaurant with a secret chicken recipe. The chicken in its secret marinade is delicious.

OK, so it's just chicken with rice and beans, etc. But what chicken! Maybe the best marinade that I have ever had. The carmelized plantains are out of this world. Super service and a very pretty Miramar location, thatched hut decor and all. A unique place and must see when in Havana. Excellent cigar shop adjacent to the restaurant that... More

The best tasting chicken in Havana - including the legs and thighs. A secret family preparation somehow including sour orange, olive oil, garlic and spices. Superb black beans and rice! A beautiful open air restaurant. Wines available. Very popular with residents and tourists.

El Aljibe is a pretty big restaurant and they have a descent menu, but there is only one thing to eat here, the barbecued chicken. It is set up as an all you can eat dish with rice, black beans, a small salad, and fried plantains. All of it was amazing! The rice and beans were probably some of the... More

Normally we stay away from the government owned restaurants but I wanted to try El Aljibe after reading about it so many times & seeing it on an episode of No Reservations. We the chicken & rice that El Aljibe is famous for but we were disappointed. The skin wasn't crispy, the taste wasn't want we expected it to be.... More

Please leave a space in your tight travel agenda to eat at El Aljibe where you will savor the best Black beans soup and chicken around! 2 dedicated brothers persevered their pre-revolution endeavor to prove they were the best from the very beginning!
