Excellent Restaurant with Pleasant Atmosphere

This is an excellent restaurant long well-known for its chicken. The original restaurant was established in 1946, and one of the founding brothers started this restaurant at this location with his son in 1993. So it definitely has a history. Although the menu is quite broad, one comes here... read more

I honestly don't think I've truly tasted chicken until I visited El Aljibe. While the limitless sides are tasty, it is the chicken that will have you asking for seconds (and thirds). I'm not sure if it was the sauce, or the cooking technique, or just the pure taste of unadulterated poultry - whatever it was, I still remember the... More

We were served rice with some sort of bean stew and roasted chicken with sauce. WOW! It was delicious! The beans were very tasty! A must try while in Havana.

This is a very large place that always has a tour bus or two going through but it has some of the most amazing chicken you will ever eat. The black beans and rice are also fantastic. Located just of the 5th Avenue in Miramar it is very close to the Avenida Quinta cigar shop run by Carlos Robaina. A... More

We read about this restaurant when we were planning for our trip. This restaurant was founded in 1946 and is famous for their signature dish "Roasted Chicken El Aljibe". The price is 12 CUC per person served with white rice, black beans, fries and green salad. The chicken is really delicious and tender. We were not with a tour group... More

It's small, it will probably be packed with "tourists", but it's so charming you won't care. Our meal was served family style and included chicken that was slow cooked and some of the best pulled pork ever. The pre-meal mojito was strong but refreshing, and the after-meal coffee was traditionally prepared, served with TLC and tasted amazing! Don't forget to... More

As a first experience of Cuban food, this place was terrific. Our group of sixteen from the U.S., seated at two tables, had lunch here shortly after arriving--clearly, it is a frequent stop for tour groups. The efficient staff kept bringing out plates of food, including vegetables, rice and beans, and the chicken for which the place is famous. Because... More

We ate here with a group during our tour of Havana. Great food, friendly and accommodating staff. Even made a fantastic, New York style pizza for our vegetarian companion. Chicken was great as were the sauces. Would definitely recommend.

El Aljibe is all about the bird - chicken that is. Here is where you'll find the best roasted chicken in Cuba, and some of the best anywhere. Their signature is the sour orange sauce (the recipe is a secret) used to baste the chickens. That sauce is sublime and so good when you mix it with the rice and... More
