A hidden Gem - La Guarida

Myself and my wife spent a couple of days in Havana and usually go by recommendation in our guidebook. A few days before travelling a friend recommended La Guarida. To be honest the taxi driver didn’t know it but with the help of google maps we were there after a bit of an adventure. It’s a little... read more

I had seen this place on the Conan tv show and wanted to visit it. We walked up to the place and it was super nice. We were meet at the big wooden doors facing the street by a big burly doorman. The doorman was super nice and spoke very good English. He asked if we had reservations and I... More

The food was one of the best I had in Havana. It is pricey and upscale but worth it. You walk up five flights in a building that looks abandoned but seeing clothes hanging on a floor makes you realize people live here. The restaurant is fun, art work interesting and the food very different from others. Smoked Marlin tacos... More

This is really as good as all the reviews! Come early and enjoy a drink in the rooftop bar and take time to check out all the famous photos hanging up. Location and entrance adds to the charm. We had a balcony seat (for 2) which was really nice. Food was very good and price was very reasonable. Reservation is... More

The setting of La Guarida is worth a visit alone. It is famous for being a movie set but whether or not you have seen the movie, the large stair case, the high ceilings and the fabulous light are captivating! The food didn't let us down, it was very tasty - yet the most expensive meal we had all holiday.... More

If you are lucky enough to be in Havana, Cuba go to this paladar in Centro Habana (between Old Havana and Vedado). Get a cab to take you directly there from wherever you're staying. (Resist the urge to give any coins to anyone on the street asking. And 'paladar' signals to patrons that it's privately owned, not a state-run 'restaurante'.)... More

Make reservations many days in advance since this is one of the best and most popular restaurants in Habana and the film site for "Strawberry and Chocolate" in 1993. We had one of the best dinners anywhere with great service and food. Don't miss the little bar on the roof top which gives a wonderful view of the city and... More

One can't deny the incredible atmosphere of the building that houses La Guardida... and really this is why one comes here, to soak up the decrepit glamour. The food is overpriced for the fare which is simple and not as fancy as described. Retire to the upstairs bar though after dinner for a drink under the night skies, this is... More

We had been recommended this restaurant by previous visitors to Havana. We tried to book on line as we had been told that booking was a must but to no success as despite using the online booking request and email, we heard nothing so, as we were taking a trip with Cuban Trip Compass we asked them to book it...
