Charlie’s Bar & Restaurant was founded on September 18, 1941 by a Dutch couple, Charles and Marie Brouns. They chose their location in San Nicolas as it was close to the large Lago Refinery: this provided a steady stream of clientele in the form of seamen, contractors, and oil workers.Over the years, Charlie’s Bar became a destination returned to by countless friends from the past, accompanied by new patrons anxious to visit what has become an iconic island institution…”If you haven’t been to Charlie’s you don’t know Aruba!”Today, Charlie’s Bar is recognized as one of the Top Ten Bars in the Caribbean; and is a must see destination for first time visitors who will undoubtedly encounter and enjoy the company of many repeat clientele from literally all over the world. Everyone comes for the ambiance; the real connoisseurs are here to enjoy the intercontinental cuisine offered by Charlie’s Menu. Everything from jumbo shrimp to fine tenderloin steaks and fresh local seafood are at your beck and call. The menu is varied and prepared fresh each and every day try our “Honeymoon Sauce” with your entrée (if you like things real hot) or tone it down with our Creole style of preparation. Daily specials and home made snacks round out the menu for the inquisitive diner.Presently, your host, Charlito (the third generation Charlie) says, “Everything we do is focused on one thing, creating an unforgettable memory that will leave you wanting to return.”

Quite a place

We stopped for lunch at Charlie's and had their fish soup to start. Then ordered the steamed shrimp, with a salad and fries.....Everything was excellent. The shrimp were huge and done to perfection. A must stop to this quaint little place in San Nicholas

My second return trip to Charlie's Bar and Restaurant in St. Nicolas. (2008 & 2015) The prawn shrimp are awesome as well as the side of fries and tossed salad. Drinks were good too. Draft beer served in a small mug... could have been bigger. Junk hanging all over the place is fun to see. On your way to Baby... More

We stopped in for a cool draft during our tour of the island. 74 years of memorabilia hang all around the bar. Wish we could have stayed longer! Staff was welcoming, the food looked and smelled great, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Aruba.

Each year we travel to Aruba. 20 years ago my father, Nicholas, ventured to San Nicholas. He discovered Charlie's bar. Loving the eclectic atmosphere where every square inch has some Memorabilia. The food and staff are exemplary! We have continued to visit this great place every year to enjoy seafood, Charlie, Tony and the rest of the staff. We look... More

We visit Charlies every time we visit Aruba. Its a little hike to San Nicholas so a car is needed but its worth the trip. Its a very interesting place filled with memorabilia left by patrons for years. You kinda have to see it to understand.... Anyway, I had the steamed shrimp with some of the hottest salsa on the... Dear guest, thank you so much for your review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed both of our specialty dishes. Over the years these are permanent on our menu. It hasn't been easy with the situation of the Venezuelan territory to keep the supply of the Shrimps. But we manage and hope to continue. Regards. More

Charlie's Bar offers a lot of history and it is therefore very nice to look at and explore. Furthermore besides all the history, the famous names and strange things, it is actually an ordinary small but nice bar. The prices are on the high side, but there was a lot of rum in the Bacardi-cola so that was OK.. Unfortunately... More

Dear guest, thank you for your visit and review. We are sorry to hear your disappointment because of the closing hours. After the closing down of the refinery and the economic recession things got slow on this side on the island and we had to adapt. Actually we close now at 7 pm and during festival hours to 9 pm.... We called for lunch while touring Aruba as it was listed as serving great food in one of the guide books. The atmosphere is amazing and lunch was brilliant. This bar has been on Aruba since 1941. It's a treasure. The food was good, although don't ask where it came from. Great drinks, great atmosophere and super friendly staff. Scary neighborhood but worth it just to see a bit of Aruba history.

Dear guest, thank you for your venture to the other end of Aruba. San Nicolas once a booming town because of the refinery has genuine architecture dating back to the 1930's. This city is rich in industrial and cultural history and is a hidden gem and has been valued by world travellers for her authenticity. As for the distance, Aruba... More
