Been several times and will be back

We've been several time and it doesn't disappoint. Food was excellent not from a packet or from the freezer. All was very well cooked and served. Plates were hot and plenty on them as well. The choice on the wall for a country pub is extensive and will please all from meat eaters to veggies. The... read more

We found this pub on Trip Advisor as a place for lunch before visiting the Godminster cheese outlet in Bruton. It is a lovely pub with a great atmosphere. We both had peasant, which was from the local shoot. It was beautifully cooked in a lovely red wine and red cabbage sauce - one of the best peasant dishes I... More

Another Sunday lunch with my elderly mother bought us to this marvellous watering hole. I last lunched here in 1988. Being a Sunday, I booked a table in advance on seeing the full car park,I was pleased I had done so. The landlord welcomed us at the bar and soon had a drink in our hands. I chose the sea... More

we meet friends here once or twice a year as we live 50 miles from the pub. The food is cooked by the owners wife and the owner runs the Bar and Martin and Ann both work hard to ensure the guests enjoy the visit. I love the open log fire and the banter we have when we visit the... More

We are regulars at Alfred's Tower and then the Bull for Sunday lunch. It's always good but today was exceptional - wonderful lamb and so much of it. There's a warm welcome and a good choice of ales. I could go on but the best review is that we keep going back!

A traditional old inn/restaurant serving delicious food. I had a rib-eye steak and my husband had pheasant. A reasonable sized portion. Not a huge selection of starters or mains so some people may struggle, but a large range of desserts. Infact desserts are outstanding Service promote and friendly Very nice wine and a good selection of drinks behind the bar.... More

Very good food, friendly staff, cosy bar - just the way a pub should be.Possibly lacking in real snacks for lunch but a good choice of starters if one wants something light. Loads of outside seating and dog friendly so lots to recommend it. Worth booking on weekends as it was very busy yesterday - a lovely sunny Saturday in... More

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime with family after reading reviews and was not disappointed. We booked a table which was required as the pub very quickly filled up. Friendly landlord and helpful staff, good beers, very welcoming atmosphere. I ordered a venison suet pudding which came with small fillets of venison steak placed alongside on top a purée, crisp veg... More

Four of us had lunch yesterday. I had not been for three years even though we live locally. The pub was full for lunch which is always a good sign. I had fish and chips and this was well cooked and as good as you can find anywhere. One person had the sea bass and another head the rib eye... More
