Absolutely a MUST visit!

Food excellent! Great ambience. Cannot wait to enjoy when next in the area! If you love squid this is certainly a speciality! exceptional attentive service. Looking forward to my next visit when in the area. We could do with restaurants like this in London!

We have dined at the Laughing Monk many times and it is always excellent. Over the past three years they have improved the decor and fittings to provide a quality and comfortable evening. Service is superb and the man and wife team manage the kitchen and front of house expertly. The menu has meat, fish and vegetarian with enough variety... More

Initially liked the look of the place from the outside; the old school house has atmosphere and style. Unfortunately found ourselves in the annexe which is featureless and stuffy. It wasnt helped by a large party having a crying baby which helped to create s negative initial impression (not restaurant fault!) The food as others have said were all set... More

Thanks to trip advisor, we found this. Then thanks to someone cancelling, we found ourselves having dinner there. What a treat! The menu has some great choices. Wine good value, and nice. Service excellent. Then there's the food! We had a shared starter which was fantastic and then fish for main, all very nicely presented and cooked to perfection. Pudding...yummy!... More

Out of the way, a little difficult to find, but the tourist information sign saves the day. Worth the journey. An excellent meal, very much enjoyed.

The food, both fish and steak was beautifully cooked although one member of our party would have liked crispier roast potatoes, and those who had desserts said they were 'scrummy'. The building is a good size with different types of tables with enough room between them to ensure privacy. The wines we chose were reasonably priced and there were some... More

A lovely meal, we only had a mains but it was delicious and tasty. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised as it was one of those times that you don't know what to have, but turned out very good. Staff were excellent and had good knowledge about the menu. Can I please say to everyone if you book but... More

We've been visiting this part of Devon for almost 20 years and we stay just 15 minutes from here. We've made a point of coming here on each of our most recent visits and we've never been disappointed. The range of dishes is not huge if you're not a fish or seafood fan, but you can understand that with such... More

I've struggled slightly with the menu here in the past, as I'm intolerant to shell fish, even to the point that a sauce prepared from shells has a very bad effect. Even when I've had non-shell fish in other restaurants I've been ill afterwards. As a lot of the food here is fish based, I try to steer clear of... More

Booked on trip advisor website after reading the reviews. We weren't disappointed. We arrived early to a very friendly greeting and shown to our table. The various waitresses were all excellent attentive and the lady who served our desert had a great sense of humour. We had a very enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
