Excellent MEal

It has seemed that whenever I'm away, my wife treats the family to an early-bird dinner at The Laughing Monk. So I decided to put this to rights and joined in and an excellent meal it was too. Good value, good portions, well cooked, presented and served. Recommended.

You know a place is good when it is located in the middle of nowhere and is full when you leave. I had lamb Wellington and bake well tart. Both were excellent. The old lady service was so so friendly. The only thing that spoilt the evening was being sat quite close to a noisy group of 4 when we... More

This was recommended to us by the proprietors of a B & B. We took our son who is at BRNC. The restaurant is in an old school building and has retained many of its features. The tables are well spaced, so we didn't have to hear the conversations of others. The menu had some unusual choices like goats cheese... More

Friendly, personal and professional service. Menu a little different from most with some interesting and very tasty choices. Booking recommended.

After a disastrous visit to a pub a couple of villages away, we took to Trip Advisor to check out the potentials for the rest of our visit to Torcross. The Laughing Monk looked like a good one, so we booked ourselves in for our last evening there. The previous evening we were at The Tower at Slapton where their... More

Tucked away up a quiet side street in a village, this gem blew me away with the tastes experienced with every dish. Our party of four made sure we all sampled from all plates, so good were the varying flavors. The chef is a wizard with sauces, and their matching to the main ingredient of each dish. The scallops I... More

We went there one wet and misty July evening. We were a bit worried about parking but there was a small carpark opposite the church just up the road. The bread was varied and delicious and very moresome but you don't want to fill up because of the rest of the meal. We had the seafood tapas to share which... More

Visited this establishment with my wife and parents to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Three of us had the seafood grill, which was excellent My wife had the Sirloin Steak, which at over £25 was gristly, and horrible. The meal was changed for a different course at her request Front of house very matter of fact, and not the friendliest to... More

Everybody visiting this area should visit The Laughing Monk, such friendly staff and 1st class service. The food is amazing! I had the scallops followed by slow cooked lamb. I didn't have a dessert as the portions were generous but the people I was with had the Bakewell tart with ice cream and orange and pistachio sponge with marmalade ice... More
