I don't normally write reviews but there are some restaurant experiences that just deserve to be shared with others, and this is one of those restaurants. Excellent food, reasonably priced, served by welcoming staff. What more can you want. If you're in the area please try it you won't be disappointed.

We were visiting Dartmouth and decided to call last-minute to see if we could get a table. Success, we had an early booking at 6pm for myself, hubby and my 16month old. We had a warm welcome and were seated quickly. The high chair was ready and waiting too. To start I had the lobster and prawn cocktail and my... More

We were on a long hike when at just after 6.0pm we fell upon the Laughing Monk by chance. Despite our walking poles, boots etc we were welcomed as if we were properly dressed for this great restaurant. We had water in our glasses before we sat down. The menu was exactly right. The works that have been completed produce... More

Just have to let everyone know, if you ever have the chance to visit this area then your really need to check out the Laughing Monk restaurant. It's menu offers such great local produce. On my first visit I had a starter of salt and pepper channel squid, followed by a main course of seafood mixed grill. It was so... More

We stayed at Strete Barton House whilst visiting the Dartmouth Regatta and had already booked a table at the Laughing Monk in advance for our first night. This is a 1 minute walk away, the only restaurant in Strete. We had a pleasant meal in nice surroundings with great service. Suffice to say we asked for a table on our... More

We ate here during our latest stay in the area and the experience was just as good as on previous visits about three years ago. Food was interesting and tasty. Atmosphere and service were great and pretty reasonable prices for such quality at just over a hundred quid for three courses +wine + cocktail. A great local restaurant and we'll... More

We visited the Laughing Monk for the second time last week. Delicious food, we both had fish dishes and efficient friendly service. Well worth paying a little extra for an excellent meal.

We dined here twice (two adults and three children) during a week's stay in Devon (9 - 16 August 2014). On both occasions the food, service, atmosphere and value were excellent (the latter when compared to London rather than local prices). Across our two evenings we tried a full range of dishes including the seafood tapas starter (excellent), the crab... More

This is a really good restaurant and for those coming from London, good value. The food is of outstanding quality. We visited it twice during our holiday. One time we had the fish 'tapas' - a large sharing portion of potted crab, smoked mackerel, squid etc which was very good. Great to see other fish like gurnard on a menu... More
