What a great place

We've only been there twice and for some reason we have twice ordered the same starter! They do this amazing starter of tempura battered squid. Need I say more. Lovely main courses with fresh produce. Well worth the visit(s).

a great place well priced, local food and some wonderful cooking. What's not to like. Although the menu is a little bit limited and the flavour combinations are not always novel, that owes more to the authentic use of seasonal, local food which is testament to the excellent cooking on display. A straight forward non-stuffy atmosphere adds to the feeling... More

Had read the reviews here and was not disappointed. Booked in advance. Warm welcome on arrival, coats taken and shown to a very nice table. Restaurant is done out very impressively and good converstion from an old school building. The menu was varied and the food delicious. Local produce from Dartmouth Crab to Dartmoor Pork, South Devon Steak and local... More

It was a wild and stormy night so we couldn't see much on the way to Strete. I'm sure it is prettier than it appeared. The restaurant was reasonably full and very welcoming. The food was good, fairly simple but excellently done. We all had fish which was fresh and well cooked.

Amazing place. Our family own a holiday home in street and we always visit when we are here. We love the atmosphere, quality of food and friendly staff. Always a very enjoyable night out. On this visit I had the scallops to start and the beef cheek as a main and my mum had calamari and cod. Always fantastic food... More

My wife and I have stayed in Dartmouth on a number of occasions over the years but had never come across this hidden gem before. The food was exquisite and the service impeccable. We will definitely be visiting again and I would highly recommend The Laughing Monk to anyone who is after high quality food at a very reasonable price.

We have visited this restaurant many times over several years and it never fails. A warm welcome awaits you from Jackie and her husband Ben who is the chef. Modern comfy décor with local artists work on display. Totally imaginative and beautifully presented food using all local produce. It is always delicious. There is a wide selection of very good... Little gem ! Beautiful food in both taste and appearance. A very comprehensive menu catering for discerning diners. We dined there twice during a stay of 3 days in the area and would not hesitate to recommend it.

We visited the Laughing Monk again in March for my wife's birthday. We have been here on numerous occasions over the last 5 or so years and we were not disappointed. A great welcome and superb service together with a wonderful meal. We had the scallops and squid for starters followed by the seafood platter and sole, all were well... More
