We visited the Laughing Monk for the second time last week. Delicious food, we both had fish dishes and efficient friendly service. Well worth paying a little extra for an excellent meal.

We dined here twice (two adults and three children) during a week's stay in Devon (9 - 16 August 2014). On both occasions the food, service, atmosphere and value were excellent (the latter when compared to London rather than local prices). Across our two evenings we tried a full range of dishes including the seafood tapas starter (excellent), the crab... More

This is a really good restaurant and for those coming from London, good value. The food is of outstanding quality. We visited it twice during our holiday. One time we had the fish 'tapas' - a large sharing portion of potted crab, smoked mackerel, squid etc which was very good. Great to see other fish like gurnard on a menu... More

Great food, service and venue. Really enjoyed our meal. Generous starters, good variety on the menu with a strong seafood content. We didn't have a desert as the starter and main we're sufficient.

my experience at the laughing monk could have been better i felt a little bit ignored by staff the atmosphere in the building wasn't great and all my fish seemed to be overcooked and a little bland it might have been an off night so i might be back to try again soon just to make sure

We ate at the Laughing Monk recently whilst staying at fantastic local luxury B&B 'Sunswept'. The food was delicious in every way. Other reviewers mention the portion sizes but one is not obliged to clear ones plate. Exercise a little restraint and you will enjoy some of the best seafood imaginable with friendly service and pleasant surroundings. Those that scoff... More

Characterful building and interior, not much in the way of car parking. We were the second people in, so I guess any later and you park down the road a bit. Nice welcome, opened the door as we were getting out of the car. Food good, although my monkfish and tiger prawns wasn't enough so had me finishing off the... More

The best food we had in our holiday. Excellent medley of fish and monkfish tails. Not cheap but value for money

This was our second visit and we weren't disappointed. Great homemade bread and delicious food. Couldn't manage puds and left really full. Very attentive service, generous and flavoursome portions. We hope to return.
