First timers here, coming by way of the excellent tripadvisor reviews. An absolutely fabulous evening! A beautiful restaurant tastefully decorated with a mix of original and modern. The staff were all very polite, friendly and attentive. I had the Dartmouth Crab & Prawn Cocktail for a starter, followed by the Pork Belly which were both simply delicious. My wife had... More

We visited The Laughing Monk last night for the 1st time and it was fantastic! The food was wonderful, we both had crispy salt and pepper squid to start then I had mixed fish grill (scallops, cod, John Dory & monk fish) and my partner had the belly pork. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere... More

Staying in Kingswear, we crossed the Dart to park outside the entrance and receive a warm welcome on a rainy dark night, great service and superb food which considering the quality was value for money. The seafood tapas starter for two included the best scallops we have tasted and a fish strudel never before experienced. Left with some kind advice... More

We were staying at the Gara Mill lodges so wanted somewhere close to eat for our wedding anniversary. Googled the area and found The Laughing Monk. Booked online which was handy as always forgetting to call places to book! The staff were all so friendly it was a really lovely evening. Squid for starters then steak and the seafood platter... Despite being regular visitors to the South Hams, we'd never had the chance to visit this lovely restaurant. Well, we've certainly been missing out by not doing so. A relaxing ambience, friendly and welcoming staff and delicious food makes this a place to head to. I'd have no hesitation in recommending a visit.

We've only been there twice and for some reason we have twice ordered the same starter! They do this amazing starter of tempura battered squid. Need I say more. Lovely main courses with fresh produce. Well worth the visit(s).

a great place well priced, local food and some wonderful cooking. What's not to like. Although the menu is a little bit limited and the flavour combinations are not always novel, that owes more to the authentic use of seasonal, local food which is testament to the excellent cooking on display. A straight forward non-stuffy atmosphere adds to the feeling... More

Had read the reviews here and was not disappointed. Booked in advance. Warm welcome on arrival, coats taken and shown to a very nice table. Restaurant is done out very impressively and good converstion from an old school building. The menu was varied and the food delicious. Local produce from Dartmouth Crab to Dartmoor Pork, South Devon Steak and local... More
