Whilst we are 'regular' visitors to The Malt Shovel in Breaton, and are always impressed with the quality of food, excellent service and lovely ambience - this New Year's Eve the team surpassed our expectations! We started with a sharing 'seafood' plate with oysters, Tempura prawns, salmon and 'liquid olives' - amazing! And it continued to get better, our Chateaubriand... More

Fantastic real English pub / restaurant located in a small village on the outskirts of Harrogate. A fine mixed menu of traditional food cooked to perfection using well sourced ingredients and served efficiently by a passionate team. The open fire and authentic surroundings add to the experience. One of the best meals we've enjoyed in this area. Go here!!! -... More

Went here for lunch on my birthday a couple of days ago and had a lovely time. Good food and a cosy table by the fire, and friendly service. At around £25 per head for a combination of starters, mains, drinks and desserts I consider this to be a real find and will definitely return.

An excellent pub with welcoming staff, open fires and a pleasant atmosphere and ambience. The food could not be faulted with a wide selection of fish and crab dishes available at lunchtime. The barmaid/waitress was extremely efficient and friendly without being in the least overbearing. Probably more of a gastropub than a true Yorkshire inn; can't imagine wet walkers wanting... More

Popped in for lunch on Saturday to meet friends. Very friendly pub, with a menu which has just enough variety to entice you to revisit! The scallops were excellent and my lamb main was probably the best I've ever tasted - praise indeed from a foodie like me who eats her way round the world! The steak and ale pie... More

I got a steak and it was lovely! Beautifully cooked and presented. Didn't take too long to come either. The waitress was extremely friendly. It was quite a small place with quite a small menu. It felt a bit dark and dingy at first. I thought it was trying to be a bit too posh for a village pub and... More

After a beautiful walk on a lovely autumn day we turned off towards Brearton whilst on the way to one of our favourite lunch venues- and so glad we did! We received a warm and friendly welcome from the staff, even though we hadn't booked. A good selection of wines and beers on offer and the meal was superb. I... More

Popped in here on spec having originally planned to go somewhere else (but decided not to stay as it looked empty and pretty grim). Very warm welcome and lovely food. Service was rather slow (1 1/2 hours for one course!) and so we skipped desert as we had something else planned for the afternoon. However, the waitress was lovely -... More

Great food, friendly welcome and service, pleasant surroundings. A super evening and obviously popular with locals. Village isn't easy to find but the pub cannot be missed. Would definitely return when in the area.
