Excellent BBQ - slightly weak coctails

The beach by the shipwreck hut was one of the best beaches in Rarotonga. It is sheltered and the snorkelling is excellent. It is also a great place to see the sunset! We had cocktails and the BBQ menu on a Saturday there - the BBQ was delicious! The entertainment (local ukulele player) was very... read more

I have to agree with Hotice 26 Auckland, we found it just not the same now Jim isn't there. You could always guarantee lots of laughs with him he made the place, we came back again this year because we loved the atmosphere there. Every night we would be at the bar because you knew, you would be in for... More

Great place. Get there before 6pm so you can secure your spot and watch the sun go down. Their cocktails are delicious and the food is great. We were there on a night where they were doing their BBQ and the food was a mix on traditional and modern. Rustic but well worth it. Staff are very friendly. Great entertainment... More

Every one of the 13 times we have been to Raro we have been to the Shipwreck Bar. The previous owner was a charismatic fellow from Hawaii and his "sea captain" appearance and colorful personality was perfect for the place. The setting, cocktails and staff were wonderful even if the food menu a bit average. We went back this time... More

Kia Orana. Thank you for your review, we appreciate you taking the time to post your feedback. The time when you visited was probably during the final week of the cricket World Cup and many people who would normally have come to the Shipwreck Hut for the BBQ and drinks actually went to venues where they could watch the cricket... Brilliant place. Drinks great as cocktails are made fresh in jam jars. Beer was cold, food was great all at a good price. Seafood chowder was awesome.

We came here because the owner was at the Saturday morning market handing out flyers and singing the places praises. One can sometimes be a bit dubious about this practice... but we chose to go anyway and must say our evening was definitely a highlight of our stay in Raro. The seafood BBQ was pretty good, don't expect a huge... More

The Shipwreck hut is absolutely the best bar on the island! The staff are super lovely and the sunset view is beautiful. If you get a chance to join them on one of there BBQ nights it is totally worth doing, their smoked marlin starter is the best thing you will taste. Highly recommended.

A nice bar and restaurant with decent food at reasonable prices. They often have entertainment with a local troubadour and are you lucky will the staff sing and dance for you.

We had a very enjoyable Saturday night Fish Barbeque sitting on the beach and watching the sunset. The music of Jake Nuanga, the guy who welcome every international flight at Rarotonga Airport, added background atmosphere. Fish and salads were fresh and very tasty. Would describe everything as authentic Cook Island Style, not five star hotel fine dining. Cost us NZD$105... More
