A great quirky casual dining experience. Opened since 1979 it still has the same owners and the same name. It is a mix of eclectic and local island decor. The walls feature an array of photos of events, people and things. The ceilings are a collage of various types of posters etc. The Tumunu Garden Restaurant also features the "largest little notebook" on the island. Come visit us! A fun place for children too with a garden and "dancing laser fire flys"

Great food and unique atmosphere

We liked the garlic shrimp with spinach mash so much we ate there twice. Friendly and courteous staff. The outdoor garden dining was lit with lasers and colored Christmas lighting. The bar ceiling was covered with beverage cartons from all over the world and the walls had patches from police and... read more

Maybe I expected too much. We waited for just over an hour for our order. The glass water bottles were neat as we didnt see those else where on the island. When the platter came out the waitress explained there were two parts missing, oysters and raw fish (ika mata) The rest of it was nice but compared to what... More

Kia orana Thanks for your review. Whether they are good, bad or otherwise we take them on board and try to do better. I am sorry that you were disappointed in the platter. The menu states seafood depends on availability. Happy that you enjoyed the décor and ambience. Not sure what happened with the waiting and are looking into that.... More

A great place to go if your really hungry, food portions are of this planet. Service is of the high standard I found through out Rarotonga. Bar is a little quirky and drinks are reasonably priced.

Hello and Kia manuia from all of us at Tumunu. Thanks so much for your great review. The seafood platter is our main seller and 99% of people are very happy with it. The décor is eclectic and so aged but so is the Tumunu. LOL Kia manuia The Team at the Tumunu Garden Restaurant More

This is the oldest restaurant on the island. The food is pretty good although the menu is very limited. The decor is very weird. The walls and roof are covered in old adverts and boxes like coke. There were also pictures of partially naked females on the ceiling.

Went with family for dinner. Was looking forward to going as last time i dined there was 12 years ago and had fantastic memories of the place. The restaurant itsself is nice, the outside seating area beautiful. The pictures on the ceiling of scantily clothed females probably arent suitable for the younger diners lol. We were seated, our orders taken... More

Fish and desserts were nice, deep fried items a bit greasy. Desserts really good. Ordered bottomless tea and coffee, but got charged for refill! Manager said they charged for each one even though menu says bottomless, but finally tried to give me a refund but such bad adding of menu meant they got this wrong as well.

Kia orana an Thankyou for your review. I am glad that you enjoyed the Tumunu on the whole. I do profusely apologise for the over charging of the "bottomless" cups of coffee etc. This is definitely the policy. I have taken this up with the staff and they said that they didn't really understand what "bottomless" meant. In any case... More

This place was recomended by the orientation at the Edgewater. We barley made it through the seafood platter. It was absolutely delicious. Will go back next time we are in Raro. BYO was also available.

Had one meal here and it was quite OK, nice ambience inside or outside. After dark the lights all come on and it looks cool. The meals were generous, the ingredients fresh.

Had to try it this time, was very much looking forward to it, but left feeling that $80 for the platter was well over priced, a shame, great setting, fantastic service, just platter needed local food, not what was on it, never mind know for next time.

Kia orana an thanks for your review. The Cooks are not renowned for their seafood, particularly shell fish. However having said that the selection of seafood on the platter is quite good being oysters, prawns, shrimp, scallops (sautéed or deep fried), garlic prawn twist, calamari, local marinated raw fish and smoked fish salad and lemon braised fish. The salad and... More
