A great quirky casual dining experience. Opened since 1979 it still has the same owners and the same name. It is a mix of eclectic and local island decor. The walls feature an array of photos of events, people and things. The ceilings are a collage of various types of posters etc. The Tumunu Garden Restaurant also features the "largest little notebook" on the island. Come visit us!

Eat outside

The indoor decor leaves a lot to be desired and would turn a lot of people off eating here BUT we ate outside, surrounded by lush greenery and twinkling lights. Ideal! Servings large - Prawn Twists and Prawns (13) with garlic butter dipping sauce delicious.

Not great, the service was slow and food average. We came a few weeks back and ordered the lemon fish and steak with mushrooms. despite the restaurant been relatively quite, we waited a long time for our food. I think our orders were probably forgotten as two tables who arrived after us had both their entree and main and were... More

Kia orana Thanks for your review. So glad you enjoyed our food and Garden. The inside of the restaurant is rather eclectic and not everyone's cup of tea. Hope you come visit again. Kia manuia The Team at Tumunu Garden Restaurant More

Lovely staff who were very obliging. Lovely setting and a friendly cat. We were the only diners the night we went and we enjoyed the lovely outdoor setting.

Struck us on a quiet night. So glad you enjoyed dining in the garden area. The cat "rules" the restaurant and I hope she was on her best behavior. Thanks very much for your review. The Team at Tumunu Garden restaurant More

With all the lights outside and the look from the road we thought we must stop in for dinner one night. Initial thoughts from walking in was positive. We did decide to eat out-doors and even with the FREE bug spray, which was a positive from the restaurant we were still dessert for the local mozzies. Food . . Well... More

Kia orana Thank you for your review. We can always learn from them. I am glad you enjoyed the garden and complimentary spray and dessert. Not sure what the disappointment was. You do mention the prices - was that the disappointment? Kia manjuia from the Team at Tumunu Garden restaurant More

We ate here twice on our stay in Rarotonga. The price and variety of the food and drink was very good, we have the scallops and calamari each time and we really enjoyed the meals. The cocktails are really good and loved the house named Tumunu.

An interesting place to visit. The décor is Rarotongan along with masses of every kind of advertisement from a bygone era stuck on the roof, along with flags. Not a place you’d pick for a quiet meal but more of a destination for a group looking for a good night out. We ordered the Seafood Platter for two, $80. Worth... More

This is our second visit to Tumunu and we're pleased to report that the Seafood Platter is still the best available on Cook Islands, and in fact one the best ever we've ever had. The platter has everything, including real scallops!!! fresh, huge oysters and every other type of seafood you could image cooked to perfection. Our host for the... More

The service was friendly and efficient but the fish platter was not great value or quality, a lot of the cooked fish was over cooked and tasted the same regardless of what it was. The venue is attractive - especially the exterior, a little dark inside. I would choose something other than the platter next time!

Kia orana Thankyou for your review. I am sorry you didn't enjoy the platter as many have and raved about it. However I do apologise if it was not up to our usual standard. The lighting at night gives this place a deceiving outlook. On entering restaurant the interior hits you as being very busy in look and not the classy look I assumed upon entrance of premises. Food is of quality and substantial. Service was standard as our waitress was still learning the ropes,we all have to start from somewhere,so that was ok.... More
