Summer day out for drinks and food.

The menu sounds great, but the food and prices charged does not really live up to what is expected on the plate. I compare with well run country English pubs. The location is amazing, and weather permitting diners can sit outside with a fabulous sea view.

I have visited for lunch twice since its refurbishment. The first time, the food was excellent but the service slow and clumsy - which I put down to teething problems. The second time was 28th August, just before the Bank Holiday weekend. Not especially crowded, but the service was a complete shambles. We were told that we would have to... More

Even - perhaps especially- in bad weather, The Ship Inn deserves a visit. The beach cricket may be rained off, the barbecue unlit, and the sea wild and grey but the welcome will warm your cockles. The new décor is clean, fresh and nicely understated, the menu has some surprises (smoked mackerel salad with inventive garnishes) as well as old... More

The ship is well located near the waterfront. It has been completely refitted internally and has no atmosphere of an old pub. A designer has had free rein, with buckets plumbed in to the men's room and utility stop valves and a tin bath instead of a wash-hand basin. The menu was good. I had smoked haddock and clam chowder.... More

Popped in here for lunch . First time since its been refurbished and it didn't disappoint. Food was ordered and arrived promptly. Best fish and chips I've had for a while. Staff were very polite and couldn't do enough for us. Can't really say anymore. Great food , great service and a great view. What more can you ask for.... More

Finally got outfor lunch today at the ship inn. Its been beautifully renovated. After reading some of the revues I was a little concerned about eating here but we had a lovely lunch. Three of us ordered the fish and chips which arrived within a short time and all three plates were cleaned thoroughly. One of the best pieces of... More

We came for a meal when just the small downstairs room was open, it was great then so decided to come back now upstairs is open. It doesn't disappoint! The room is gorgeous, fantastic views. We had a very nice relaxing meal. The food was top quality with out being pretentious, service was polite. They also have an amazing gin... More

Been visiting Elie for a long time and we usually stop in at the Ship Inn for food or drinks. This time was a fantastic summers day (the only one?) and we sat outside. We knew there had been renovations and I quite liked the new open plan decor although it was mostly empty as the patio area filled up... More

We visited the pub on a sunny day at the beach. Recently refurbished, this has been done so tastefully and with a bit of flair. The staff are in the main young and as it is a new venue not as polished and rehearsed as some might like, but they are keen to help. Of note was the excellent selection... More
