Perfectly acceptable, but unexceptional

We were wary about this restaurant, after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. But there really is no alternative for dinner in Grant Grove Village. We arrived on-time for our reservation, but it was 45 minutes before we were seated and had food in front of us. After eating, it was another 25 minutes or so getting our bill settled. Evidently, the computers were down. First, the waitress brought us a hand-written itemized bill expecting us to total the bill. Then, when I decided to... More

I want to praise Chef Jerry Villanueva for the fantastic Dinner he cooked for my wife and I. My wife had his Iron steak which was seasoned and cooked to perfection and I had his grilled Trout which was the same. His Clam Chowder Soup was the best we ever had and were from Maryland the seafood capitol as was... More

We were wary about this restaurant, after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. But there really is no alternative for dinner in Grant Grove Village. We arrived around 6:30, and had a 15-20 minute wait before being seated, but Andrew thoughtfully sought our preferences about tables that became available on two occasions. Our waitress was delightful and efficient. On this night,... More

When you enter this restaurant your expectations immediately plummet due to the outdated surroundings. The menu itself has nothing special to offer. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. We stuck to the basics based on our first impressions but after having lunch we were much more open to experiment at dinner. We had the pizza... More

We ate lunch or dinner here over the course of four days and enjoyed every occasion! The ribeye steak equalled any at Central Valley fine restaurants. We loved the trout dish, salads and desserts. We were also pleasantly surprised by the wonderful wine selection. The wait staff is second to none...well done! Their Mother's Day brunch was fantastic, with Eggs... More

After a day of driving, especially the two hours of winding road through Sequoia National Park, the ONLY option for dinner was the Grant Grove Restaurant. At best, with a limited menu, the whole dining experience was very plebeian including the wait staff.

We stayed at the John Muir Lodge for one night. This is the only food option for miles. We ordered trout and chicken Marsala. The food was awful, specially for the price: $22 for a trout, fishy taste dry. The chicken had been fried, the Marsala sauce is served in the side (that's NOT chicken Marsala folks!).. We had to... Since this is the only place to eat if you're staying at the lodge, you're pretty much held captive. The food itself was pretty good, and two of the servers we encountered were OUTSTANDING - Taylor and Andrew you guys rocked it!! Christina was aloof, unaware, and uncaring when we came in for b-fast on her shift. She sat us... More

The menu has great variety, delicious. Prices are medium. Even has Wi-Fi. You can eat in, or on the patio, or get it to go. The clam chowder is excellent. Service was warm and friendly and efficient.

When we ordered the evening special, the chef JT came out to thank us for ordering it. Burgers and pizza bored him. It was nice to encounter passion for good food in the middle of a civilized wilderness.
