A nice place close to the crater

The Volcano House is a gift shop, restaurant and hotel. It's as close to the crater you can get without being outside. Have lunch and watch the crater thru huge plate windows or outside on the deck. The gift shop has everything and the fireplace is a wonderful way to dry shoes and jacket... read more

This iconic hotel gives one the rare experience of experiencing the past. Now under new management for for about 2.5 years the hotel has been updated but still has a very authentic look to it. The crater view from the front of the Hotel is as amazing now as when Mark Twain stayed at the original wooden hotel structure in... More

Views are great when clear. Supposedly can see red lava flow at night but we were socked in by a rain cloud. Make dinner reservations early. You can eat in the bar on a limited menu. Also we returned for lunch and brought our own and sat on the outside. Jane

Had lunch here in between hikes on the full day we spent at the park. Food is great and staff is corteous. Reasonable prices considering the location. Was worried since went straight there without even considering other options due to total lack of the latters, but was pleasantly impressed with the result. Highly recommend to go there if spending the... More

We have been trying rum runners and lava flows on Maui and the big island, with quite varied results. On an extraordinarily busy afternoon at Volcano House, the unassuming bartender handled the maître d' duties AND the bar, and poured us the best rum runner and lava flow (they call it a Volcano) we had in our two weeks of... Didn't get to eat here, waits were too long. However, make sure to visit the bar and have a "Volcano". Perfect girly drink for visiting the volcano. Also, you can sit by the fire and drink - and it's cold up there. YOu'll need it.

My wife and I remember the old Volcano House located just inside Volcanoes National Park. The new hotel is new and more comfortable, and there are two restaurants. We decided on the "coffee shop" vs. the fancy and more expensive restaurant. The service was very good, the food tasty, the prices reasonable. And this all came with great live music.... More

Fun to stay in such a historic hotel. Rooms are large, clean and well appointed. Our room had a direct view of the Kilauea caldera and the glowing lava lake at Halema'uma'u crater. Breakfast buffet was excellent as were the helpful hotel staff.

We recently spent a day in the Park and were originally going to head to the Jaggar Museum to catch the nighttime glow, but wandered into Volcano House in search of an adult beverage and some appetizers. Unfortunately, the kitchen was shut down, but the bar was open. We grabbed some cocktails and two front row seats in front of... More
