Old time eating

The history keeps on coming when you enter the dinning room, if only the walls could talk. Food was good servce was great, cost was moderate. Well worth it.

We had a special dinner at the El Tovar Restaurant. The service was excellent and the view of the sunset over the Grand Canyon was amazing. I had the prime rib and my husband chose the duck. Both were excellent. I recommend an early dinner in the winter so you can watch the sunset and a later one in the... More

I was traveling solo and decided to treat myself with a night of fine dining. This was it! Fine dining with a view of the Grand Canyon! What more could you ask for? Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Price was on the high end, but not more than you would expect for fine dining experience. I had the duck,... More

After a cold Feb morning walk admiring the visitas of the Grand Canyon South Rim it was very welcoming to enter this grand dining area & experience great food served by knowledgeable & attentive staff. We started our lunch with the French onion soup gratinee which helped warm us up & next enjoyed the grilled Arizona ribeye steak sandwich. We... More

We loved having dinner at El Tovar. The service was excellent and the menu had plenty to chose from. I had the pan-seared halibut and it was delicious. The wine list was also extensive. We sat and enjoyed the murals on the walls and the rustic but elegant setting. It is a must in the Grand Canyon south rim area.

The dining room has an old authentic feel to it; cultural/historic paintings on the walls, nice fireplace and whole-wood roof and walls. The waiter was kind and knowledgeable. the buffalo meat was tasty and properly prepared, likewise for the duck. Suggested wines, zinfandel and piot noir, respectively, were good and delicious matches.

Dinner was disappointing. The bread seemed stale. My fish tasted bad but only on one side so when the waitress first came by it was ok. Seeing my plate still full they just came and took it. Never asked if it was ok and never asked if I wanted it wrapped up. For the price it needs to be better.

Thank you for your comments on your meal at El Tovar. I apologize that our wait staff was not more attentive, they should have noticed that you did not enjoy your entrée and offered to substitute for another option, or remove it from your bill. I will forward to the Dining Room Manager for follow-up and retraining. More

Tasty food with excellent service. The restaurant has a great regular menu and fantastic specials. The dessert tray is also very tempting but I choose an after dinner port rather than a sweet confection.

Excellent service staff, helpful and knowledgeable about menu items. Sat near the fireplace - romantic for couples. Food was top notch and good variety on menu. Would return in a heartbeat.
