Decent pub grub in a beautiful setting

We had a post walk lunch here recently. The setting is gorgeous, with a beer garden out the back, overlooking a stream and the fells. The inside looked very quaint and cosy too, but on the rare occasion when the sun comes out in the Lakes you need to make the most of being outside. Food if fairly... read more

We visited the Kirkstile on Sunday evening after pre-booking... thankfully we did as it was very busy with both guests and residents. The setting is idyllic and the food did not disappoint either. I can recommend both the steak pie and the lamb henry, washed down with a pint or two of Loweswater Gold of course.

The Kirkstile Inn is a traditional English pub with excellent views and atmosphere; a great place for a pint of Loweswater Gold at the end of a hard day's fell walking. The evening meals are of a good pub grub standard and can be eaten in the dining room or bar. Note that orders must be placed at the bar,... More

Visited Kirkstile inn for the first and last time. Arrived at 5.45 after a long walk over Mellbreak looking forward to a drink. Sat by the door with two well behaved dogs out of their main bar area. We did this out of courtesy as there was a sign saying dogs not allowed after 6 o'clock. So, sat scrunched up... More

We have stayed here for the last three years for short breaks and love the wonderful view from the bedrooms. It is renowned for it's food but mainly for meat eaters. As non meat eaters we found the food a little over ambitious and would prefer to see simple food.

This pub was recommended to us and it didn't disappoint. There was a good selection of local beers and the food was excellent - certainly recommend the steak and ale pie! Staff very friendly.

What a gem! A perfect Lake District pub. Great beers, good wine selection and friendly staff. We had a lovely evening. The food was definitely a step up from the norm. Well cooked imaginative dishes using good ingredients, can't recommend this place highly enough.

We were staying at New House Farm and were recommended to eat at the Kirstile Inn. The food and selection of beers was absolutely fantastic and the steak and ale pie was to die for! The best we have ever had!

By far the best steak pie I have ever had, real deep dish none of this bowl with a crust on the top full wholesome steak and plenty of it, Great surroundings, great beer. Stayed here 40 years ago on my first real adult holiday.
