Truly Enjoyable

Ok, i dunno if this was because we had just walked round Loweswater (3.65 miles) or because i was with great company or I was just hungry BUT the meal was fantastic, lovely rural western lakes pub, great staff, plenty of tables and an excellent bar selling real cask ales. Only a few starters but... read more

I visit the Kirkstile from time when I'm walking in the area. Usually have a sandwich, but today I went for the fish and chips. After an excellent pint of Loweswater Gold my meal was served to me on a wooden board, the fish plonked on top of the chips - when you try and cut the fish the chips... More

We visited here for lunch following a walk round Loweswater. We had booked a table and it was just as well as the place was busy. The food was excellent. Two members of the party had steak and ale pie - the large portion - which, true to its name was large. The pie was not one of these stews... More

Fantastic value, had the steak and ale pie 'superb''. Value for money without a shadow of a doubt. What would have been a nice to have would have been more dog bowls in the garden with fresh water, dogs are very much a part of most people's day so it's good to cater for the little chaps.

Stumbled across this place, which is off the beaten track. Went for lunch and the place was packed to the rafters. Lovely atmosphere, sat by the fire and enjoyed a very tasty lunch with friends. Not overly priced, customer service was attentive without being intrusion. Can't wait for a return visit.

Been here lots after walking for a few pints and the ales are excellent. Finally had something off the lunch menu (steak and ale pie) which was fantastic. Good portions and we'll priced. Would definitely recommend. The fact it was packed on a Wednesday at 12 speaks for its self.

Dropped in early on a Monday evening expecting to be easily seated without a reservation. We were lucky to get a table, as it was busy. This was second visit in recent times, and as previous, not disappointed at all. The specials board had a great choice, fantastically prepared and presented, and not your typical pub meal. There is a... More

Rang up at short notice to book a table, spoke to a lovely manager called Greg who was very hospitable, friendly and helpful. When we arrived for our booking Greg had remembered our telephone call, had the table ready and was very attentive. We were also served by a female waitress (sorry don't know her name!) and then the manager... More

Once again a very good meal in a country inn. The restaurant and bar were full with walkers, cyclists, real ale enthusiasts , dog lovers and young families all enjoying well cooked food in a friendly ambience I managed to track down Stuart who had been a help to us last time we visited and although worked off his feet... If you want to stay in a quintessential whilst isolated Inn - this is the place. Surrounded by fantastic scenery and close to some of Cumbria's more untouched Lakes, this Inn offers a quiet stay. It is steeped in history with an atmosphere in the Bar which is quite special.
