Just got back from a weekend stay at the Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater, Cumbria. A delightfully situated Inn hidden in the North Western Cumbrian mountains. It's difficult to picture a more scenic location with mountains surrounding the Inn and the beck running close by. The beer is brewed in their own local brewery and is well worth tasting. The meals are... More

We had a delightful evening meal here on a cold wet and windy January night - the drive over from Buttermere was well worth it. Lovely cosy surroundings and a warm and welcoming log fire, with bags of character (we sat in the bar area in a cosy nook near the fire, but the dining room and the newly-added closed-in... More

Staying in the area and booked to eat here (been before) and once again not disappointed. Their steak pie is to die for. We could not eat a sweet but were full on the first class meal. We will be back

Was looking forward to a rather good Sunday Lunch, but was presented with a plate of food which was reminiscent of a School dinner! Roast Beef was interminably chewy,i conceded defeat after 99 attempts, gravy was a salty residue, vegetables bland and tasteless!! Evidently microwaved! Roast potatoes equivalent to American Bunker Busters. The yorkshire puddings were palatable. The dessert was presented well, however, the presentation... More

We visited the Kirkstile at Loweswater in late August. The staff were friendly and efficient, the setting is in my favourite part of the Northern lakes. That's the good news, our party had 3 ploughman's and 1 steak pie. The ploughman's had very little variety on it and the pie very average. We were all disappointed as our friends had... More

The Kirkstile Inn is a very old pub tucked away in the beautiful Loweswater Valley, you wouldn't come across it unless you were down there. We know this area very well, but we haven't been to the Kirkstile for a long time, we wont be dashing back either even if we do get hungy while out walking, take a picnic,... More

Can't beleive the previous review said yuk, perhaps they really went somewhere else. Another thing I can't beleive that it is still such a delight. Get in on a wet afternoon, the fire is blazing, the beer is good and the kitchen can put together great big sandwiches. Some things have changed over the years; what happened to the piano?... More

We were surprised how busy this pub was when we called in !! it was full to busting but we managed to find a table. We only had a light lunch but both would like to return and stay in the rooms they have too. Lovely cosy pub with log fires

WE found this delightful Country Inn in the 'middle of nowhere' it is a charming old fashioned Country Inn that serves good honest English food, mainly of the lighter nature, we had Soup and Sandwich, very good quality at a more than reasonable price. Ideal place to drop into for a light lunch, but be very wary, by its nature... More

On a wet day in November, my friends & I had a drive around Loweswater & decided to pop into the Kirkstile for a lunch time light snack. We were sitting close to the kitchen doors & could see some of the kitchen when the waiters opened the doors to bring food out for other diners. The food did look... More
