another good meal

My wife and I popped in here the week before Easter on impulse and had a really good meal. Sat in the bar and had a pint of the Loweswater Gold while we waited for our order and when the young waiter brought the food he commented that my pint looked slightly cloudy and brought me another, I never... read more

The menu is very limited. ..mostly sandwiches, very few hot dishes : steak pie, fish & chips & mushy peas, stir fry veg. An ample wine list & choice of beers. Plenty of staff did not translate into efficient service. The big lump of chicken liver pâté was grainy and too runny, and was served on one slice of French... More

We make a point of eating ( and drinking ! ) at the Kirkstile Inn every time we visit the Lake District and are never disappointed. The warm , welcoming pub is great especially if on a cold day and the wholesome food on the varied menu is always very good. The ales are also very good and served `just... More

We ate dinner here during a self catering week at High Lorton. Smashing food in a cozy and welcoming pub. I enjoyed a vegetarian meal and the service was welcoming and very friendly. We would definitely eat here again and maybe stay too.

Recommended by my brother if we were up that way. We popped in for lunch on a very busy Sunday. We didn't have to wait too long to get our food and sat outside and ate delicious sandwiches in the sun in March! We will definitely return for a meal next time we are in the area.

We have been coming to the Lakes for the past 20 years or so and have always made sure we fit in a visit to the Kirkstile Inn, regardless of where we staying. This has to be our favourite Pub in the Lake District, The food is such good value compared to the more popular tourist destinations and always of... More

After 400 years of service as a hostelry you would imagine that they'd got the serving of food and drink spot on .... And you'd be or right in your assumption. People who visit The Kirkstile tend to return again and again as the ambience is second to none and the food is delightful. There are always a good few... More

We ate here on a Saturday in February and the pub was packed - with good reason. The food was excellent, as was the locally brewed beer. I had the steak and ale pie - it was a proper homemade pastry pie (not a stew in a dish with a puff pastry lid) and it was crammed with 100% steak.... More

did not stay so can not comment on the hotel. had an evening meal ln front of a roaring log fire and it was just what what you needed on a cold and wet evening . good food and service although a bit on the expensive side.

I haven't stayed there so I can't comment but the food is great the beer is fantastic and the atmosphere is what a pub should be. It's ideally located for all types of walks and they're more then happy for you to park there to walk unlike some pubs.
