From our first step in the place it had quality oozing from everywhere, the decor was very relaxing and homely. The big fire helped , even though it was gas! The menu was excellent and the service was top notch. Having a prawn appetizer was a nice touch, all the food was of a high standard, presented beautifully and very... More

Situated north of York this olde worlde pub situated in a quiet village, On arrival we were made most welcome. After ordering our food we were served as an appetizer broccoli and stilton voulete which was delightful. My wife's first course was fishcake which was very tasty - not the usual potato taste. I had the fresh mussels with homemade... More

had a lovely dinner here. lots of fish choices, I had with the Dover Sole which was featured that night. staff was very friendly and attentive. the creamy onion soup with truffle was outstanding. it's very pretty inside, very countryside feeling, a little rustic but in a beautifully preserved way. If I lived here, I would be a regular customer.

Visited a couple of weeks before Christmas for our son's birthday. We arrived just after 6.15 to take advantage of the early bird menu. We were a little disappointed to find that menu a little restrictive - just two options for each course - and so we ordered some dishes from the fairly pricey a la carte menu. All four... More

My wife daughter and I had a super Christmas Day lunch. All of us had the smoked salmon to start followed by roast beef. The beef was absolutely superb and the portions were generous. The restaurant was fully booked and there was a great atmosphere!! The waiting staff led by the very capable Jade ( A REAL GEM !!! )... More

We booked our family Christmas Eve meal here and it was just us and one other party in for a meal all night, which meant the atmosphere was a bit lacking. The staff were very friendly, but the waitress a little inexperienced and so we were not well looked after and kept having to catch her attention when we needed... More

We went for lunch with my wife & gran. Based on other reviews, we were looking forward to it! The pub is lovely and food was lovely. I'd also recommend the York brewery beer (Yorkshire Guzzler I think it was called)! Lovely service and great for a relaxing lunch!

Four of us visited on a Saturday afternoon in December, and our experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The food, drinks and service were all of an excellent standard. Of particular note was the game pie, which was probably the finest game pie I have ever eaten. Great work, look forward to coming again soon.
