What a restaurant! The experience starts as soon as you step into the restaurant... Beautifully decorated, Il Rinascimento has fascinating artwork that will blow you away. The hosts go over and above their duties to make you feel comfortable and welcome (Leonardo and Jeanie both speak Italian and English). The food is exceptional: local produce is used to create traditional... More

Marvellous experience. The gastronomic aspect is fab, with a style that combines traditional cooking with a modern touch, and the ingredients are top-class. Moreover, the couple running the place, the renaissance type Leonardo and his sweet Canadian wife Jaynie make everything better. And the area is very charming, with the delicious town Santo Stefano di Sassanio at 10 minutes by... More

After our first visit we really wanted to return with some friends and the opportunity arose for us to take a long hike from Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Rocca Calascio and back. We called the day before to see that we'd be ok for a late lunch around 2pm ish and Jaynie confirmed that would be fine. Well, the... More

I could write a gushing review, but it honestly wouldn't be enough. This is a fantastic restaurant in every respect and the food, either sourced from their own gardens or local producers, is, well.... simply fantastic. I will say no more. Go there, try it and love it. What Jaynie and Leonardo do here is setting a very high bar... More

I just returned from a trip to Italy and had the opportunity to spend a week a half in the Abbruzzo region of Italy. I ate at the Rinascimento restaurant in San Demetrio (not far from L'Aquilla). The food is fresh, homegrown and they even make their own wine and liquors. The food was so good, I ate there several... More

My wife and I just return from a two week vacation in San Demetrio. My family roots go back to the small village of Casentino, just next to San Demetrio. Having been raised on the foods to the Abbruzzo region, it has been many years since I was last able to enjoy authentic cooking from this part of Italy. Leonardo... More

I can't begin to tell you how wonderful Leonardo and Jaynie are. He and his father even painted the fresco on the ceiling! Amazing, all locally grown food, is exquisitely prepared and paired with excellent wine. Leonardo's passion for art, either on the wall or on the plate, shines through with every bite. The drive from Rome is beautiful, and... More

The first time I went I was bowled over by the food, the hospitality and the price. I returned a month later and was delighted that it was not just a good first impression. Lovely food, delightful hosts and excellent prices.

Despite the fact that there are amazing places to see in the area, not many people make it to this part of Italy. For those that do, including a meal at Restaurant Rinascimento is bound to be a highlight! The decor is elegant yet comfortable. Delicious homemade dishes are largely from old, local recipes expertly executed with tender care. If... More
